I knew that going from Ibiza to BOOM was going to be intense, but as it turns out the only real hardship was simply getting from the airport to the festival. Before we left Ibiza, and once we arrived in Madrid and found out that no-one was at the airport to shuttle us the 5 hour drive to the festival site in Portugal, I tried numerous times to sort out our transportation (thank you Nilza for all your effort!!), but in the end we were on our own. At first I thought that getting to BOOM from Madrid on our own was going to be much harder, but Irena stepped up and together we simply sorted out an overnight train to a town (Castelo Branco) very close to the festival, and from there we caught a 30 Euro cab ride right to BOOM. The overnight train ride was interesting, not very smooth but in a room with four clean bunk beds. They do not allow mixed sex rooms, which was confusing at first as Irena and I had our tickets mixed up and we both ended up being the only guy or girl in our room. Once we got that sorted
out I actually managed to get a decent sleep. Traveling by train in a sleeper overnight is a great way to save some cash as it is both transport and accommodation, however if it is not a sleeper then it is not worth it in my mind because unless I get a decent sleep, the next day is a waste and time is precious on this trip!!
Finally at BOOM, we find out that somehow we had three extra tickets which would come in handy a few days later. We made our way to the performers camping area, set up residence in a tent that was unfortunately very sun exposed (we were late, that's how it goes!), and after finding Norris (who had also been trying for two days to help us sort out a ride from Madrid, thank you brother for all your hard work!!) and his girlfriend Nina, managed to begin to explore the massive festival site and managed to catch Shadow Fx's set at 4 pm which was the last music to be played on the main stage after which it was shut down until later that night. He had the crowd freaking out and one
woman jumped on stage naked and was dancing up a storm until security kicked her off, it was a pretty amusing sight. The crowd cheered for over 5 minutes when James was done his set, if anyone in the crowd of over 7000 people did not know what the Zenon sound (the Australian record label I am a DJ for) was all about, they sure had an idea when he was finished. James' brother Pete (Tetrameth) ended up playing the same slot the next day and again ripped open the heads of the crowd, it was a very impressive performance by both of them and I have a feeling that BOOM was a huge boost for Zenon. One crazy story to add is about a woman I know from Quebec who traveled all the pay to BOOM to hear her favorite artists, the Zenon fellas. She is a MASSIVE Zenon fan. Unfortunately her and her partner were mugged in Paris and as a result had not money or tickets to get into BOOM, but being hard-core they simply hiked without water for seven hours in 30 plus Celsius mid-day sun over foothills to sneak into the festival, and managed to
catch Pete (Tetrameths) set. I had to introduce her to him afterwards and it was a pretty happy woman with a HUGE smile on her face who told Pete exactly how blown away she was by his set. Super cool to be a part of all that!!
A few days into the festival Norris and I were slated to perform a downtempo set on Sunday at 1 pm on the chill stage, which ended up being a 4 hour set. The setting was beautiful and along with the main sound system there were also speakers flown in trees surrounding the stage. We had a bunch of visitors from hoe and abroad who came by to say hello and enjoy the tunes, and once we were done a very warm round of cheers and applause rang out, all in all it was a fully rewarding experience and as usually Norris worked his magic in making sure the tunes were top-notch. We will be posting the set in the Sons Of Aurora section soon, and I will also be working on the Sons Of Aurora Motion Set while I am traveling and hope to have that up soon as well. I
wanted to say thank you to Nilza, Naasko, and all the rest of the BOOM crew for all their effort and assistance, it was truly an honor to take part in such an incredible gathering. I have also uploaded a bunch of photos into a BOOM 2008 gallery in the Sons Of Aurora section for everyone to enjoy.
As we hoped on a shuttle to Lisbon Irena and I were now excited to slow down the pace of our trip a little, get some sleep and begin to finally relax. Bring on the beaches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
