As you might know, Renita, Jocelyne and I have been stuck in Lisbon Portugal for the last five days, we're trying to make the best of it but my back has been killing me in the last 4 days so it's hard to enjoy the extra time we have here. Flights are finally leaving Frankfurt so maybe we'll be able to leave this
Saturday without too much hassle since we are waiting for the crowds to clear the airport before we
try and leave. We've been here long enough, it's been over a month and we're ready to go home.
After our flights got cancelled and because they couldn't guaranty our rooms for the nex t five days, we left the Radisson which we had chosen for it's close proximity to the airport and went back to our original hotel which is the VIP Madrid. It's closer to downtown which makes it a more interesting area with more restaurants and shops. Since I can't walk around much with my sore back and all, Renita and
Jocelyne took that opportunity to go shopping whenever the weather was nice; we've had on and off rain much of the week but it's still warm.
On one of those day when the weather didn't co-operate the girls decided to attempt making their own Sangria. So off they went to buy not only the ingredients such a an orange, a lemon, wine (of course), some kind of cream soda which they thought was ginger ale, a pitcher and a ladle. The attempt was somewhat successful but I think they need a little more practice although they sure had fun doing it.
On another one of those rain and sunshine days we all took the Metro which by the way is a great
way to get around, it's very clean, the seats are very comfortable and there's one every five minutes even
on Sunday. We ended up at a very large mall called Vasco da Gamma at the other end of town which just
happens to be at the end of the line for the Metro and spent the day there shopping and eating rich food.
We are still struggling with the language, but Jo is very good with sign language and seems to get our
point across whenever needed. It seems that we're always finding great restaurants when were leaving an area, it happened in Abufeira, Tavira and now in Lisboa. The new little place is so close to the hotel (across the street) that it's amazing we didn't see it before. That's where we met a nice retired Portuguese lady named Helena that speaks five languages, she worked for the US embassy for 20 some years and is now retired. She told us she comes to the restauran every day because it's the best food in town for the best price. We chatted a long time with her on every subject and then she had to leave due to a previous commitment.
Note: The picture with Jo and Renita was taken in Tavira in a huge indoor market which reminded me of the Byward market in Ottawa.
