Drove an hour south to the town of Ericeira, just 40km North of Lisbon. Lots of headlands and cliff faces with right hand point breaks. Checked out the coastline and then went to our accommodation, Beach Tour Ericeira. A really nice two bedroom apartment with pools and ocean glimpses. Spent the next days at the beach (water getting chiily), eating the local produce and drinking local wine and beer. One day we headed into Lisbon and went to the Castle of St. George and their version of Scitech. Indiya and Jarah really enjoyed the Science Centre. On our last day we had to sell Matt's surfboard and some of the camping gear we had accumulated in Hossegor. We set up a car park sale at the beach. Finally around 4.00pm an English guy bought the ... read more

Lisbon, portugal is the largest and my favorite city in portugal because lisbon is the second most economical and financail city of the iberian penninsula. the lisbon area is also the wealthiest region in porjugal and it is a preety nice city. Lisbon is also the political center of thed country. libon was once ruled by Julius ceaser when it was a 1000 years old at 205BC. It was named by the german Tribes in the 5th century as Felicitas Julia. then the moors captured the city and added olissipo. IN 1147 the crusaders under the rule of alfonso Henriques recouncered the city from the christians. ... read more

Well it's good bye to my favorite place in Europe, Ericeira. What makes this place my favorite well it's the surf, sun and most of all the people. Northern Portugal is fortunately for the locals but unfortunately for the economy a little forgotten gem in Europe. It has some of the best coast line, few tourists (or at least less) and generally has only the committed tourists rather than the package types. Debs checked into surf school in Ribeira d'llhas.. (see or if you don't speak Portuguese, ) and we met the coolest people from Joy her teacher to Dan, Eduardo and the Spanish crew fellow students, Alex (German), Lars and Nina, Ryan and many others. The locals, Joy, Pizza Guys Jan and Pete (, Great Pizza Guys!), Lulu, Andre, Alex, Tan... read more

Ericeira has once again turned it on for us. This spot is perhaps my favorite place in Europe. Mostly reef breaks it's shape and consistency are legendary and yesterday I saw it at 6 foot. A size the locals say is the minimum for them to go out.. or the more bravado of the locals. Ericeira has been good to me over the years and it didn't disappoint. It's got great food, friendly locals (unless you violate one of the rules of surfing!), cheap and has great waves. We have been here for a week and a half now and relaxed right into the place. We have met a german couple Lars and Nina. Nina is in surf school with Debbie and I've been surfing with Lars. We have also met a Dutch couple who we ... read more

Once again my apologies for the slackness of keeping my blogs up to date. Sice leaving Asia in ealry december I flew to the United Kingdom. As soon as I got off the plane I suddenly lost my tan from 2 months in Asia and could not for the life of me figure out why I was the only one off the plane in shorts, shirt and thongs at 6 in the morning when it was 4 degrees and raining. I was also quickly told that the weather wouldnt change for the next 5 months. It was a great introduction to the UK! I ended up working in mid Wales as a furntire maker. Ive learnt alot and built some interesting pieces of furniture. I have managed to score some decents waves in the UK. ... read more

After a quite night in Lisbon and resisting the lure of a night out with two spunky Lisbonites who approached us at the Shopping Centre, Darren and I Shared a taxi to the Grande bus stop where we parted ways after an excellent 8 weeks together. If you have missed any of our adventures and would like to check them out, please go to: Darren's Travel Blog From here I caught bus to Ericeira and Darren went onto the airport and London where he is organising accommodation, a job and reuniting with his fabulous girlfriend Mary. After an hour and a half bus trip I was picked up by a girl called Stef in her Rover. I found out about the Portugal Surf Camp from a guy I met in the surf in Mundaka. While describing ... read more

From Sintra we drove out to the Atlantic Ocean and the fishermans village Ericeira! We believe Ericeira is a popular sunday-trip-destination, and since the weather was extremly good there was a lot of people on the way in and out of Ericeira. The drive out there was very nice, through small sleepy villages, up and down hills and valleys. The roads in Portugal are in good condition, and it is very easy to find the way. We arrived approx. at 6 p.m, just in time to take a walk around the village and have a look at the boats before the sun set. The boats in Ericeira was small and colorful. When the fishermen come back from the days fishingtrip, they drag their boats on land. The boats were made to handle that, they had pieces of ... read more
