At home on the Water
James, Leah, Hannah on our caves tour We were very excited to be going to the beach town of Lagos today, after the weather was against us at San Sebastian. Our one and only aim: sit on the beach, swim and generally do nothing.
However, not everything turned out quite as we had planned…
On the way there, we had a quick exit off the train at Tunes, to transfer onto the train to Lagos, and just as the train doors were closing I realised my day-pack was still on the train! Oh no!!!
Us, along with everyone else on the platform panicked and we tried to run back on the train, but it started puling away just as we realised what had happened!
James and I went to the information counter at the train station to try and sort some thing out. However, the lady didn’t speak much English, and our Portuguese was worse, so we had no idea what was happening!
Just then we realised that our connecting train was already at the platform! We ran back across the overbridge as the train started to take off! - then we saw Leah with one foot on the platform and one foot in
Lagos Coastline
Our boat trip to the caves and rock outcrops the train with all our bags!! She managed to signal to the driver to wait as James and I belted down the stairs and on to the train which was still moving as the doors shutting right behind us! Yikes!
So we arrived in Lagos one bag short, and wasted half the day trying to sort it out. We tried to explain our situation to the guy at the train station in Lagos, but his English wasn’t any better! After a few times of re-explaining ourselves, we think he said that someone is going to put the bag on the next train to Lagos…. Or that we are to catch the next train to Faro to collect it… not sure…
Either way, we had wasted more than enough beach time sorting this out and to make thing worse, it was such a nice day!
But the good news is, in the end they actually understood our crap Portuguese / English and I got my bag back! Yay!
Now we could finally start our day in Lagos!
We went on a boat tour along the coastline to see all the caves and rock outcrops. It was quite
Catch of the Day
A Fisherman catches an Octopus funny as the driver spent most of his time pointing out different rocks that he thought looked like something… everything from an elephant to Michael Jackson’s face - some people definitely have too much time on their hands!
Then we finally got to go to the beach! We were all very excited to be going for a swim - which was possibly my first since Greece is August last year!
We managed to catch up with Dan in the evening, who had been travelling with other friends since Pamps and has almost done the same trip as us! Haha great minds think alike.
