I decided about 10.15 that I needed to stay and collect the bike so had a coffee. That then decided that I actually needed to get to Olszytn for 6pm dinner si it was then a mad sprint for a bus. Well I got the #175 rather than the airport bus which would have been way quicker. The 175 stops every 300m or so and has locals and airport passengers on it so the mix of bags and people is fun. It got me to Centralna for 11.02,,train left at 11.11 so a mad dash got me a ticket and down the platform. Train was late so I made my way to first class area (60PLN) for ticket. This got me a fabic seat in a 6 seat room. So off we went..2 elderly people and ... read more

Great weather and a good road on the way to Mikolajki start the day off on the right note. After 31km on shady roads through the woods, we reach the tourist destination, full of German tourists once again. After some ice cream in a cafe, we take a stroll along the beach promenade, trying to find a boat that will take us across the Sniadrwy-lake. The only one we find is a private motorboat company, who would charge us zloty 400 (that's about €100), an offer we gladly decline. So we'll take the bike for a change. After a few wrong starts (getting out of the city on the right road isn't that easy), we find our way out. The road is off to a bad start - it's a sand track, but gets worse along ... read more

What a great campsite it was! After a good night's sleep and some breakfast and coffee, we continue along eastward. We don't get far though, as the Masurian lakes are tempting...calling us to take a break...campsites and hotels left and right, people kayaking around in the lakes, and our legs feeling as though they're made of lead, we soon give in to temptation and stop in Zgon, where we decide to spend the rest of the day and take a room in a hotel. The first B&B we find has no rooms left, so we move on to the next...an ex-Sowiet recreational facility, made into a hotel with walls of cardboard and original pre-1990 furniture, amazingly still intact. The son of the owners speaks English quite well (as he's studying in Warsaw, just helping out his ... read more

I wake up at 7am already, although it took me a while to fall asleep - Hans' snoring didn't make a good lullaby. Since I find myself in a bed, I decide to force myself back to sleep - enjoy it while you have it! I manage to sleep on to half past eight. Another shower and then off to breakfast: coffee, eggs...I'm in paradise! Around 9:30 we're on our way. The sun is hiding behind clouds, perfect weather for cycling. We follow the road into the woods and find the junction Christof (the son of the German family) showed me yesterday. A poor road full of potholes soon leads us on to a larger road towards Olsztyn. Unfortunately, traffic is pretty heavy, an on top of that, most of it are trucks! Shortly before we ... read more

I have finally reached the point where I can’t tell you exactly which city I am in right now let alone which city I was in last night or which city I will be in tomorrow. All I know is that I am somewhere in Poland and have been for a little over a week. I guess that is what happens when you travel to a new city each day. I hope by the end of these eight months that I can still at least identify my location by the country. So far we have spent a night in Estonia, a week in Latvia, a week in Lithuania, and now a week in Poland. We have officially been on tour for a month now. We are scheduled to be in Poland for five weeks and then ... read more
