Brama Żuraw - Crane Gate. Once known as the Krantor. One of the Gdańsk water gates and the former port crane. The Crane was built in 1442-1444. It served primarily as the mechanism for loading goods and ballast on ships and for raising their masts. The crane was able to lift the weight of four tons to a height of eleven meters. The mechanism consists of two wooden drums with a diameter of about six meters. People inside the drums provided the motive power. Rebuilt in 1957-1959. Ulica Szeroka 67/68. IMG_5904

Brama Mariacka - St. Mary's Gate. Water gate leading to the Motława River. It was probably built in the last quarter of the 15th century (first mentioned in 1484). The gate opens to Ulica Mariacka. Rebuilt in 1958-1961. "At the end of this street are the Frauen-Tor and the premises of the Natural History Society (16th cent.; gable of five stories)".--Baedeker 1910. DSC_0148

Zielona Brama - Green Gate at dusk. Built in 1564-1568. Rebuilt and restored in 1950-1953. The structure included state apartments repurposed as a museum in 1879 and as the National Museum in Gdańsk from 2004. At the east end of Długi Targ. "The Lange-Markt is terminated on the E. by the Grüne Tor, erected in 1568, which contains the natural history and prehistoric collections of the West Prussian Provincial Museum. Dwór Artusa - Artus Court. Constructed in its present form in 1481. The grain exchange from 1742 and in use as a museum since the 19th century. Długi Targ 43/45. "Beyond the fountain a broad flight of steps ascends to the Artushof or Junkerhof, used as a Corn Exchange since 1742, the former name being said to be derived from the mediaeval tradition of King Arthur, and the latter from the 'Junker', or wealthy merchants of Danzig, who formerly assembled here. The present edifice was erected in 1477-81 on the site of an older building. On the lower part of the facade (1609-17) are medallion-portraits of King Sigismund III. and his son Ladislaus IV".--Baedeker 1910. IMG_5964
