August 18 (Friday)

After a long walk from the train station we made it to our hostel. It is right in the Old Town part of the city. Beautiful hostel with great people. The staff helped me arrange a phone call to our family in Slotowa and a translator to go with us. Bart who works at the hotel has been so nice and is happy to help.

After we dropped out backpacks off at the hostel, Dad and I went for a walk around the Old Town square. It is the largest square in all of Europe. The square contains several churches, a cloth hall that sells Polish souviners, countless excellent restaurants, and various shops.

We visited St Mary's Church that has a 500 year old alter that was dismantled by the Nazis and discovered by Allied forces and reassembled. Visited about 4 more churches. I think I prayed more in one day than all year. Not really, but you get the idea.

August 19 (Saturday)

Dad and I went on a bike tour of the city and had a great time. We saw a couple of churches, the river, an old communist looking hotel that all tourists had to stay at up until 2000ish, did some shopping at H&M during lunch at the mall, the Jewish Ghetto, and Schindler's factory. My dad still meet the most interesting people! He met a stuntman who has doubled for Vin Diesel.

Went to dinner with a couple of people from the bike tour and out to a club afterwards. Had too much fun and went to bed about 4am.

August 20 (Sunday)

Today was relaing one. Dad and I went to Polish mass at St Mary's. Next, we went to Wawel Castel and looked at the church and the grounds. All of the tickets were sold out for the day to enter the castle.

On our way back we stopped at the the Archdiocean (sp?) Museum where Pope John Paul II lived when he was the Archbishop of Krakow. The museum contained his vestments and personal belongings. There were several rooms that were arranged with is furniture as it was 30 or so years ago.

Took a nice nap and atea beautiful dinner. Time to go to bed so I can get up for a run in the morning before we depart to meet out relative in Slotowa.
