For the first time on this trip it has rained continuously today, from before we got up to now at 9.00pm as I write the blog. To an extent we blame the guide book for this as it explains that at Bergen which we briefly visited, it rains for an average of 260 days a year!

Bergen was for a long period dominated by German merchants of the Hanseatic League and many their warehouses built of timber, stone and brick from the 18th century onwards still exist in an area by the city’s quays called Bryggen. We spent most of our short stay sheltering under the umbrella walking around this area and visited a restored merchant’s dwelling and Schotsteuene, the Hanseatic assembly rooms where the merchants met. We also loked at the stalls of the fish market selling a bewildering variety of cooked and raw products.

The night was spent sheltering from the weather in a campsite on the outskirts of Bergen.
