So now Allan has experienced the Hurtigruten. We got off at 9 am, walked to Avis car rental to pick up our VW Golf. When we got there a little before 10 am, there was a sign on the door, so we waited. You can see what car we ended up with. It made me nervous to park it in the parking garage at the mall, as the spots are all on the smaller side. For practice, I drove Allan up to Aksla for a view of Alesund before meeting Kjell's daughter Kari at the mall. She is as I remember her, very much like her father in enthusiasm, energy and determination. She is home from Switzerland often because of Kjell's failing health. He is in the hospital, so we gave her a ride there on our way to the ferry for Hareid. We were able to greet her mom, Turid, outside for a few minutes. We took photos together and I sent them by email so Kjell can see them. He gave a thumbs up for Kari to see us.

Elin met us at the ferry and we had time to visit and have a wonderful meal of Norwegian potatoes, venison in a mushroom sauce, rice, and small cranberries in a sauce. It was hard to not overeat. Daughter Lisa lives in the downstairs apartment, so is helping with our laundry and we will go out a little this afternoon. Yes, Allan has instructions to stay away from the washing machine! No more perfumed clothes for me. The view from the Johnsen's is impossible to describe - absolutely gorgeous view of a fjord and a variety of ships and ferries.. Hareid has about 5,000 people and Ulsteinvik has 8,000.
