Imagine, if you will, innocently trying to fill up your pay-as-you-go plan. first, you go to the website that's not in english, and 2 hours later, courtesy of google translate and some stellar intuitive skills, you get to the part where you have to pay.. then it won't let you. Then, you still with me? ,, you try to find the number to call. Since your pay as you go plan has run out of money, you have to use the SIM card from back home.. i can only imagine what this costs.. when you get to the automated system that...you guessed it... is only in Norwegian. My strategy was to start at 1, and press 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9, and then 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. Somewhere along there this combination of random numbers got me to a person.. who explained that I couldn't fill my account online OR on the phone, I had to go in. Thus, Rogers>Telenor. And that's saying something.
My second day here was a little less hectic than the first, but still just as stressful. For anyone that has met me any time after high school, you may know how ...well, bad I am at meeting new people.. some may even
VHSS From a Distance
(stands for Valnesfjord Helsesport Senter) go as far as to say I am a rat until you get to know me. Well HERE I am jumping right in, literally. At meals I just find a table with people over 8 years old and sit down.. then they proceed to keep talking, every once in a while someone asks me how long i'm staying or what part of Canada I'm from.. but then they just carry on. however! This strategy did land me being invited to practice archery last night (you know, the usual). So I shot some bow and arrows which was great. Today we started with medicine ball exercises, with the older group with rheumatic problems. (arthritis..etc.) I amazed everyone when in the middle of the session I showed them how I could count to 15 (since she had been doing it the whole time,, not too hard to pick up on). Then we headed back to the pool again. Since today was the last day this group is here, it was basically free time in the pool so we just swam around and stuff. Then I went outside with one of the physiotherapists and a couple patients and played frisbee-golf. Yes, it's just
like in gym class only we had snow shoes on (the snow here is deeper than me!) and they have real targets and not hula hoops. I have just come back from a cross country ski which involved me falling, cursing and taking pictures. Ooh and about the pictures - I am in one place now so they're going to be going downhill from here. Just a warning.
The final thing I have to say is obviously about food. I don't think I have made an entry without mentioning it yet.
They have 4 MEALS here - Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Supper.
The food is delish too! They eat a lot of rye bread, meats and cheeses. Especially a special kind of norwegian brown cheese. nom.
