The journey between Voss and Oslo Our journey from Tyssedal to Voss by bus then onto change to a train from Voss to Oslo was a scene one. I was surprised by the volume of snow that was covering the mountains. They were not that high either but laden with snow. It was a very pretty journey.
When we arrived in Oslo, we checked into the Scandic Hotel, which was very conveniently located across from the train station. We faffed around for half an hour then met Zoë at the ferris wheel. We wandered up Karl Johan Gate- the Main Street that lead to Parliament House, the Royal Palace and then down to the promenade walk, along the river- which brings you around to many historic sights of Oslo. We ate out at Lekert'n which was on the water and out in the warm, afternoon sun. Zoë enjoyed her pot of mussels, Marcus the prawns and I had fish and chips and we also had a local Norwegian pale ale. We strolled around to book tomorrow night's restaurant booking and around to the Opera house, which has a sloped roof upon which people can walk. This was then very close to our accommodation, so we picked up

The journey between Voss and Oslo an ice-cream for Marcus on the way back into the hotel. I was thankful to return to the hotel as my foot had developed a blister on the sole from Trolltunga and it was hurting to step on it. We slept well and woke, on Marcus' birthday, to a bright blue sky and sun shining brightly. It was predicted to be 27 degrees today.
We went down for breakfast, another buffet, then returned to the room to wait for Zoë. When she arrived, we went out for the day. We ambled to the sights we had not seen yesterday afternoon, then back to the old city and ferry. Marcus wanted to go to the Viking museum, so we caught the ferry across to the beautiful suburb it was situated in and went in for about an hour. It was very interesting. It covered the journeys of the Vikings, the things they constructed, stole, their craftsmanship- it had many old relics that were of interest to us all. We returned by ferry to the city centre and walked to Jansen Beøff House, devoured ribs and a burger and fresh, hot fat chips.
We waddled our way back toward our

The journey between Voss and Oslo hotel, stopping to squeeze in an ice-cream and look in a few shops. We had a little time to lay down and relax until Zoë was due to catch her train to the airport to fly back to London. We walked her over to the station, laden with snacks and drinks for her journey, then said our farewells.
We returned to the hotel to lay down and watch another episode of The Killing (Danish drama series that I love to watch) and Marcus to have an nana nap, now that he is forty-five. We are due to be at Solsiden restaurant for an eight o'clock sitting, so we rested our weary legs from our hike (and the 16, 434 steps we had done today thus far).
We missed a birthday phone call from the lovely couple who we dined with on the Hurtigruten who had recommended Solsiden. They had strolled by the restaurant to say/Singh happy birthday to Marcus. Instead they sent an email to play happy birthday. They were a lovely couple and are wonderful embassadors for their country. We walked to the restaurant. It was a perfect temperature and evening. On arrival, there were people lined

The journey between Voss and Oslo up out the door. It was completely booked out and very noisy with patrons chatting away and glasses chinking.
My Menu: Lightly grilled tuna and tartar with avocado, chili mayonnaise and soy gravy. This was exquisite- my only criticism was that it was gone before I knew it. I would love to replicate this dish. Marcus had a large bowl of steamed mussels.
For my main meal, I devoured Monkfish with mussel risoni shrimps, octopus and tarragon vinaigrette- a buttery, delicious dish with a subtle flavour of fennel.
Marcus enjoyed King crab au gratin 200 grams- which was succulent, tender and smooth.
For Marcus' birthday dessert, he ate the jewel of the night- Almond cake with liquorice, fresh raspberries and liquorice ice cream. It was a divine dessert, in every aspect.
It was a very nice menu, but the pièce de résistance was the view. Through large open windows, the view of the water, with boats floating by, was tranquil and relaxing. The lifestyle in Oslo is similar to river dwellers in Brisbane or Sydney. It is relaxing, scenic and there is an atmosphere of Summer where people are outdoors enjoying life, family and friends and good food

The journey between Voss and Oslo and wine or beer. The cacophony of smells of kitchens preparing masterpieces, is everywhere. It is a feast for the senses.
It is a shame to be leaving Oslo. It has been a lovely experience. We have enjoyed the sights and sounds, the food, the drinks, the lifestyle and the people. Tomorrow, we take the train to Stockholm, Sweden. Time to move on to the land of Ikea, ABBA and Swedish meatballs. It is a six hour train ride, seven degrees cooler, but we have new adventures to explore.
