Back in Utrecht, then Frankfurt for 2 nights before flying to Perth.
Departed Perth on 13 May 2013 - flying back into Perth on 13 November 2013.
It is the 10
th November 2013 and after 6 months, driving 28,750km in our motor home around 28 countries in Europe PLUS our 8 days bussing around Morocco, flying from Madrid to Casablanca, we are back in Utrecht in The Netherlands where we started. We have completed the most amazing experiences, seen incredible scenery, completed some exciting achievements, eaten many different foods, and tasted many different drinks from 28 countries that we visited.
We will come home with 1000s of memories (not to mention 1000s of photos), 100s of stories to tell, and will look forward to chatting to anyone who want to swap stories, dreams and experiences, and to learn and teach us about different cultures of the world.
The world is a BIG place and there is so much to learn. When it comes to people whom one meets, the world becomes a very small place. On our travels, we have met some amazing people, all of whom have been so willing to help, advise or just chat
with! I think we should all act as if we are on holidays, even though we may be working a 60 hour week with many responsibilities. I will take my own advice!!!!!
After every holiday we have had, I have always developed a “Highlights List”. I sit here wondering how I am going to do it this time. I have always enjoyed a challenge so I must ‘write the list’ ASAP.
I hope you have enjoyed the blogs and I hope I haven’t filled up your Inbox inconveniently.
We have stored our motor home in a farmer’s barn in Utrecht for the winter and will pick it up again in early May next year to visit Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Poland, Latvian countries. We will have a week in the NW Spain and NW France before we pick up the camper, as we didn’t have time to visit these areas on this trip.
For anyone who is contemplating a trip around Europe in a motor home, Tom & I would thoroughly recommend it.
Our train trip to Frankfurt was rather length as they were working on the line between Utrecht and
Arnham so we were all diverted to a bus which took us to Arnham Station. We then had to wait an hour to get onto the Frankfurt train. Thank goodness the train travelled 250 k.p.h. We got to Frankfurt at 5.00pm and booked in. All is well that ends well.
We stayed at one of the NH Frankfurt Hotels which wasn’t very old and ½ way between the airport and the CBD. The 1
st night we had dinner with Julia and Kevin who we met on our Africa trip. We had a lovely meal with them and continued to swap travel stories and plans for theirs and our future travels and experiences.
The next day we met Bernie and Uschi for lunch, who are friends of my sister Jude and husband Paul. We had a lovely Chinese Kitchen meal and then went back to their place to see his monitors and one of his 2 new Porsches (red of course). After getting back at 4.30pm we decided we had the energy to re pack, catch up with emails etc and get to bed early for an early start to the day of our return
to Australia.
We were up by 6.15 am, the flight from Frankfurt to Dubai was on time. We had a 3 hour wait in Dubai before the long ‘leg’ to Perth. The plane wasn’t full so Tom had 4 seats to stretch out on and I had 3.
It was fantastic to be met b y our son Adam at the Perth Airport and then later that night we phoned Kerrie & Gemma. It was lovely to be back in Australia, on the same time zone as our families and friends.
What an amazing 6 months.
