I was lucky to get an exit-row seat on the 12.5 hour flight from KL to Amsterdam. Lots of legroom is a godsend on long flights!

Arriving in Amsterdam at about 5am, I was met by my uncle Tony, and cheaufered back to his house in Oegstgeest. Megan and my cousin Kristie arrived a few hours later after completing their contiki tour.

Setting off to begin to see the sights of Holland, we visited a working windmill, a castle in Leiden, and then stopped for lunch on a floating barge in a canal in Leiden. (see photos) Holland is in the middle of a heatwave, it is about 30 degrees. Drinking cold Belgian whit beer overlooking the picturesque canals of Leiden is tough work!

It is time for a siesta now, as the sun is up from 4:30am till about 11am, so a quick snooze in the backyard to combat jetlag is in order.

This old windmill is used to keep the water levels in check, as the ground is about 2m below sea level. It can pump over 450L per second. From L to R: Kristie, Megan, Me.
