In the twilight of early morning the cliff-side swallows trill us awake. They are the first creatures to pierce the canyon quiet. Too late to sleep and too early to head off to feed they kill the time in between, preening and gossiping alongside their cliff-mates high above the water. They love statues here. They build huge ones that look like something out of 'Jason and the Argonauts'. At night they're lit up and some are surrounded by ambitious 'Bellagio-Flavored' fountains.

Built after the beautiful neo-Classic main terminal was destroyed in the 1963 quake. This one was meant to be temporary but 51 years later it's still Skopje's main rail station.
