Debe with the pigons
Hello to all! It is Tuesday morning 9 a.m. The hotel we are staying at overlooks a canal. That is if you hang out of the window and look three stories down. It is beautiful. We arrived into Venice yesterday afternoon, changed, grabbed the swim suits and were off. We had taken water bus taxi to the island of Lido. When you get off the water taxi the walk is ten minutes straight to the other side of the island where the beach and ocean are. All the girls went swimming. T.K., Debe said to tell you the swimming was wonderful! We came back from the island and did a Pub Crawl out of Rick Steve's. (Thanks Mom and Dad - both books Let's Go Italy and Rick Steve's have been wonderful - with the maps and recommendations!). Last night at the last Pub we meet two ladies from Boston. (They are coming to MT in the winter). There are lots of tourists here in Venice, but it is so lovely. The people are so friendly, food is great, but the WINE - can't say enough.

Today we getting ready for another adventure. Hey Kate, we are going to the

island of Murano. There we have heard that you can walk store to store and see the guys blow glass. Then off to the island of lace. Later today we will be on the train to Florence. We love and miss you all! Kim

Debe here. Well, Kim said it all. The sight seeing has been amazing, I cannot even begin to describe it. Also, the people have all been wonderful in assisting us with everything. It is very soothing and comfortable here. St. Marco square is just like the commerical with about 7,000,000 pigeons. Check out the pics. Miss everyone. Ashley would love the street vendors and the local artwork. Love to Scott, I miss you baby!!!

TA here - Venice is more amazing than I remember. I wish we had more time to spend here...there is so much to see. It is literally a labrynth of alleys and tiny stores and bars. I could spend a week walking the mazes to find new places to stop and eat and drink! There is not a lot of night life here in Venice (and, as one local put it - the nightlife is rubbish) but we managed to

find a bar and keep it open past 2:00 a.m. We met some women from Boston, two brothers from Edmonton, and the owner - Adrian - let everyone hang inside and smoke (yay). I guess we were so loud and noisy outside in the alley that some normal residents called the police...HA! Leave it to us to wreak havoc! YOu gotta love that you can walk and drink in this city! Walking the cobblestone streets have been torture on everyones feet. Thank GAWD I brought real shoes. I talked everyone into going to the island of Lido so we could swim - so now I can add the Adriatic Sea to my ever growing list of oceans I have swimmed in! Debe was pretty creative changing into her bathing suit on the beach (the changing rooms were nowhere to be found, and the bathrooms were locked). Talk about improvisation! As for the duct tape - I can only say that it has come in handy more times on this trip in more bizarre ways than I care to repeat!

Today we are going to do a small island tour - Murano for the blown glass, Burano for the lace,

and Torcello (population 20), then we are off to Florence on the train, where we will drink the bottle of wine we purchased last night. Miss everyone...and thanks for checking us out and posting on the blog! Your emails have been very entertaining!

Denise here. Mom and Dad you would LOVE it here! The bacillicas are beautifull! not to mention the veiws! we went swimming in the adriatic sea yesterday, it was like a bathtub it was so warm! and after traveling so far and walking all day, it was increadibly refreshing. I never got into the water all of the way in california, the water was so cold, it was nothing like that, and the color of the sea was amazing! will talk to you all later, love you and miss you, jennifer, give jonah a big kiss for me! love to all...denise
