From the bell tower
The view of cities are incredible the higher you go. Well today we had to be be up early and the bus left at 7:30 sharp. But the plus side of this was we had 12 hours in Venice. I found my favorite times of Venice was before and after the Day Trippers left. We were there by 8:30 and did not have to meet back till 10:30. So much time was left to explore. The pictures are fabulous. So I will get some up here when I can. I found two bracelets and a ring made from the Murano Glass factory. Did not go over and tour the island, but did have fun shopping. You can tell when you have left the main toursit roads because the kiosks are all gone. But it is fun to watch the parade of tourist buying the cheesey gifts. Could not find shot glasses, sorry John. But the two bracklets are for Mom, (one for Mothers Day and one for B-day. They are practically a month a part) Jasmyn the ring is for you - as soon as I saw them I knew one had to be yours, just matter of finding the right one. So I did and then I was off to see
While resting my feet
This is the view I enjoyed as I munched pizza and a water. the sights.
I spent some time one S. Marco Piazza, the Basicalla was worth the hour wait and the bell tower gave phenominal views of Venice. One of the few bell towers that have an elevator. It is funny Venice is like a living Museum, you have your offical meusums here but becasue cars are not allowed you have to either walk you way in or take a boat as we did. So we got to see around Veince before we experienced it. Yes VENICE IS EXPENSIVE. But you just know you are going to spend the money and enjoy yourself. But dinner was actually free, I will have to tell you about that another time. So what I saved at dinner I made up at Murano Glass ... lol. Good thing I have to carry everything with me, there were two beautifull glass vases that I knew would look good in a house I will own some day. They were good size ones (perfect for the ledges in your new house in the kitchen) but the thought of carrying one more thing on my back prevented me from gettting them. But I did take down the web address of the
Do you recognize this
This is the bridge that you just know means Venice store so I could get them shipped to me at a later date instead. (Income Tax season come once a year ...lol)
Well Beàtrice and Aimée showed us the Basilica, beautifull mosics - got pics of those to. There are soooo many pics. (Even when I weed them down I will appogize up front for the time it will take to get throught them at Thanksgiving and christmas respectivly. I could put them on a DVD so you can see them in large screen format [Aunt Karen & UNcle Jeff already had one ... hint hint MOM & DAD. In a way all of could be in misery in big screen format at one time...lol) Then they took us to Scarpa, I fell in love with Scarpa's work. Everyone talked about him in class and I was wondering, know I know. He is so meathodical about working out the detail. I know why out teacher scream details details details. This man was not an architectect by profession but he had and eye and he got it right. We will visit two of his other instalations in the future. This one was optional and not everyone took the option, that would
mean you had to pay yourself and why do that when you would take away from you drinking fund. But those of who went really liked it. We were not allowed to get pictures at this one but I did buy several post cards that gives you the gist of the space and what he was trying to accomplish.
I wondered through most of the city gettting lost and finding my way back (Beàtrice says 'dis is best way to spirence the kulture of Venezze') So having experinced their streets it is the only way you experince Venice unless you stay on the tourist trap roads) But I ended where I was heading just took much longer to get there. I deceided to follow my RICK STEVES guide book and take the public boat ride up and down the river. Well worth the 5 ride. You see Venice how it was ment to be seen. The river is one palace after another, the facades you saw in class and wondered were they went you find them here. In colors that are historically correct. So many photo opps here and I took advantage of them. I felt very sorry for all the
My favorite time of day in Italy
After all the day trippers go home ...lol little ones I saw on the boat, they were dead tired and not having any fun. Venice is not a place for children, so little for them to do. But after my boat ride which lasted about two hours I joined Beàtrice and Aimèe for dinner. Tomei found some classmates to eat with, she was also invited.
The bridges that leave glimpses further into the canals and city fabric were my favorite shots. They are sooo picturesque. So you will see many of those. After dinner we all enjoyed the Venice that few see (excet the locals and those that choose to stay overnight). The crowds were gone, and sunset was just occuring. It was beautifull crossing the grand canal at that time. We waited and watched the sun go down. We crossed into S Marco Piazza and saw a very quite square that was breathtaking, the lights were on and the music played I was waiting for the dimaond commericail to start playing. The one where the man screams I LOVE YOU I LOVE I LOVE the woman thinks he nuts and then he pulls out the huge diamond and she whispers back I love you I love ..... The back drop was in an Italian square that looked remarkably like this one ... lol
We then we we met up with the other part of the group who was sitting on the steps of a brige, they were more leaning and you can guess why ... more contributing to the vino rosso consubtion. Italy's bars will miss this group when we go.... lol
Talk to you later
