Yesterday saw us travelling from Florence to Venice on the Eurostar train. What an amazing place this is - it is hard to believe that they built these huge buildings on little islands off the coast. Our hotel is something else - right next to San Marco square where all the action is. It is really compact - they make the best use of all the available space. The rooms are exquisitely decorated and furnished - all of the walls are covered in beautiful fabric.
Spent 6 hours today walking around the canals and bridges - it is very cold but we enjoy the fact that there are no crowds. Also learnt pretty quickly that if you stand at the counter for lunch, beer, wine etc you pay half the price compared to sitting at a table!!
We have been very lucky with the weather - James spent all of his time in Rome in only a t shirt - the jumper has only come out in Venice. He couldn't resist getting Maccas for tea last night - has had enough of pizza and pasta.
