What is wrong with the weather? On Saturday morning, it was raining, so the day was cancelled at the team leader briefing. Heather, Nils and I went to Gubbio, which is about half an hour from here. It is a very nice city, situated along a mountain ridge, originating from the age of the Romans. Apart from the fact that it is wonderful to walk between the old and well-maintained houses, enjoy the beautiful view and have a coffee somewhere, there is a lot of history to discover. We went to a museum in which they showed, amongst other exhibits, 2,000 years old tablet with Umbrian inscriptions. I did not even know that there was an Umbrian language. Apparently it is a mixture between Etruscan and Latin, and it is written from right to left. Pretty amazing!

Gubbio is also in the centre of a truffle area. As I love truffles, I just had to buy some truffle products there. Fresh truffles, salsa, oil… There is so much more, but I’ll have to go home by plane, so I could not take too much stuff with me. It was a nice day. When we got back to Sigillo, we found

that some pilots had flown in the evening, when conditions had become better. Still, we thought that a flyable day does not mean that it is also a taskable day.

Yesterday, the sky was clouded again, and the forecast did not look good, so we had a re-briefing at 11 a.m. because we were hoping for conditions to improve. As they were not forecast to do so, the day was cancelled as well. Heather and I went to Perugia, about an hour’s drive from here. We parked the car and went up into the city through the Rocca Paolina, the fortress Pope Paul III. had built in the 16th century. It resembles a tunnel system under the earth, very fascinating. When we got out of the fortress, it looked like it would be pouring down with rain, so we rushed into a café – just in time! The rain did not last for long, we just had enough time for some coffee and chocolate cake, then we went to the central square and had a look at the most beautiful San Lorenzo Cathedral. We then had just enough time for walking to the highest point of the city and

enjoying the beautiful view into the valley surrounding the city, and then our bus tour through the city started. It was a one hour tour that took us into all the parts of the city that was founded by the Etruscans 600 years B.C. and then taken over by the Romans. So it definitely is an old city.

We got back to Sigillo just in time for another good dinner at the Villa Pascolo. In the evening, there was a body painting show, organised by some local people. There were singers, dancers, and some models that had been painted by artists. Sort of interesting in the beginning, but I must confess that I got bored after a while.

Today, conditions do not look very good. It is raining at the moment, but there is a slight chance for conditions to improve in the early afternoon, so we are going up to the Cucco North launch. Please keep your fingers crossed for a task.
