It's 9am on Wednesday morning and the local church bell is ringing. Dean and I have been for our morning walk/run, passing the local fruit and coffee shops with old men sitting outside smoking, talking and watching the world go by. Yesterday we spent an incredible day driving to San Gimignano and spending the day exploring this medieval village in the hills of Tuscany. Dean handled the driving really well, and thank god for our TomTom! We drove there on the Autostrade, but on the way home went the 'back way' through winding narrow roads and gorgeous villages, passing massive villas perched on the sides and top of hills. At one stage we were on gravel roads but the TomTom did it's thing and got us home safely. Money well spent! San Gimignano is everything everyone told us it would be, with little narrow tucked away streets full of stone walls and buildings, cute little shops (aimed at tourists of course!) and amazing architecture dating back to the 1400's. We bought huge pieces of pizza each from a 'hole in the wall' pizza shop, then after lunch had our regular 'gelato' (actually ice cream, not gelato like in Australia). We climbed to the top of the Torre Grossa for views to die for across the Tuscan hills and little towns, and visited a couple of interesting little museums (one a torture museum!). Taking the car back this morning then spending the day in Florence visiting the Uffizi museum and climbing the Duomo. xxx

Hi Griswold family
Hey Clark, just make sure there are no creepers growing over the street number of your villa.....never know where you might end up!? Also stay away from those roundabouts in London....unless you like Big Ben!!

san gimignano
Enjoyed hearing about and seeing your pics of san gimignano. It's like something out of Romeo and Juliet. We went there back in '84, hosted by the daughter of the family running the pensione we stayed at in Firenze.
