Kellie Tower of Pisa
This is Kellie's super tourist photo Today we drove to Pisa (only about 4.5 hours) and during this drive we saw (from a distance) Nice, and Monacco and the other small towns that line the Sea. We finally got out of France (we really didnt enjoy france much at all) and into a new country, the country Kellie has wanted to go to forever - Italia! It was the first time we had seen a boarder check - but he didnt stop us, it must just be a random check of passports etc. The instant change in scenery from ritzy houses on the hills to shanty houses with terrances of olive trees and other shrubs was very dramatic. However what didnt change were the tunnels! tunnel after tunnel, bridge after bridge, it was phenomenal how much money they spend on infrastructure etc. Some of the tunnels were up to 1.8km long. Winding in and out and in and out of these tunnels, you could imagine how scary but exciting it would be to do so in a Ferrari. There was a tunnel named Santa Giulia (thought you might be interested Giuls).
On our way to Pisa we came across a serious traffic hinderance luckily not
Accident on the way
An acciden we saw on our way from Cannes on our side of the road - a truck had burst into flames. As a result, there was about 10km of backed up traffic with no exits to get off. Lots of hot sweaty Italians were standing on the road next to their cars. Thank goodness that was not us.
Arriving in Pisa we easily found our campsite and it was only 800m from La Torre Pendente (leaning tower). So as soon as we arrived and parked we were up and running. We headed to the Torre di Pisa and when turning the corner and walking through the Gate to it, suddenly there were hundreds of tourists, and those african friends of ours who were in Paris, here again selling cheap watches, belts and other crap. There was also a long wall of stalls all with cheap souveniers too. We checked out the tour for about, oh 10mins, seen that, done that, tick that off the list. We headed around the corner to the university to have a look around, have a gelati, and use the internet cafe.
Pisa was uneventful, but pleasant, and we are now resting up for Roma.
