After a leisurely final breakfast with lots of people watching we took off for a final wander to see the Chiesa Santa Maria della Salute, and for a last look at Piazza San Marco.

After checking out of the Londra Palace, we caught another James Bond style water taxi to Santa Lucia Station for our train trip to Florence. As all of our train trips in Italy, it was fast, smooth and uneventful. We ate a panini for lunch on the train that we purchased in the station in Venice.

After arriving in Florence, we caught a taxi to our hotel, the Davanzatti, where we faced the formidable flight of 20 steps with all of our luggage up to reception.

If you are interested in my review of this hotel you can see it here:

The hotel, and our room, was very pleasant, but there was no "wow" factor like we had in all our previous hotels, although as we would later discover, the location of the Davanzatti is perfect for exploring Florence on foot.

We desperately needed to organise some laundry, so we went for a walk to find the laundry that I had looked up before leaving Melbourne. We

dropped off our bag to be washed and folded and collected the next day. We then checked out a couple of leather shops, as our big purchase of the trip was to be leather jackets from Florence. I found one that I loved, but decided to leave it and look around some more.

We walked back to the hotel via the beautiful Piazza Della Signorina, seeing the gorgeous copy of the statue of David.

The evening started with the complimentary happy hour provided by our hotel, which was really enjoyable. A couple of glasses of chianti, some snacks and the opportunity to chat to our fellow guests, all of who seemed to be from the USA. Dinner was at Trattoria al Trebbio, dining al fresco as it was quite warm. We had our first taste of Bistecca alla Florentina – delicious!
