A Medici Balcony
Looking out over the vineyards This afternoon about 20 of us went out to the Italian countryside (about 5km out of Florence) for a tour of a vineyard and wine tasting. It was absolutely beautiful and the air was so clean. It was definitely a needed change from the city air and reminded me of being home in Colorado. The vineyard and gardens were housed in an old Medici summer home, it looked like a place where I would love to spend summer days. We saw the back gardens (designed by the same architect who did the famous Boboli Gardens in Florence) where there were growing lemons and oranges. In the distance we could see miles and miles (kilometers and kilometers) of vineyard with little Tuscan houses through out. We sampled four different types of their wine along with the olive oil they also make there. They provide an apertivo (bread, meats, cheese, and biscotti for dessert). Everything was delicious. I couldn't get over the quiet gardens and fresh air, it was really nice.
