Hello and happy Friday! I have no huge blog for you guys about an big adventure I have been on, because it has only been 5 days since my last trip. I am here to share some things I have left out in many previous blogs thst are overdue for a blog. So sit back, have a rest (as my host mother always says!) and have a cafe as you read away my friends.
One thing, in my opinion, and many locals opinions, everyone must experience in Torino is the view from the top of the Mole Antonelliana. Mole, for short, was used as a synoggauge at first and is the tallest building in Turin. It was later turned into a cinema museum. The Mole is an easy building to find in skyline photographs of Turin because its that large, tall, building in the photo. There is a lookout at the top of the mole that has an incredible view of Turin. Jennie and I took last Friday afternoon to explore in the cinema museum and take the lift (elevator but Ofcourse that is British English they use here.) to the top. I even asked for the student discount and
he gave it to us.....success. It never hurts to ask In any situation...remember that! The cinema museum was very interactive and hands on which was awesome because I normally am not a museum lover, however, this museum kept me going. Each room in the museum is representing a different time in history, and some rooms even had large beds to lie down on And wat h an old film! In the center of the cinema museum are large red cinema seats which people can sit on to watch old films thst are playing Too. It was an incredible view from the top, and a perfect day for it! Torino is known to have foggy days very often, and sometimes you cannot even see in front of you. I have yet to experience the fog to be that awful, but, there have been plenty of fog mornings.
On another note.....it's time for a strike! And, I don't mean the 1, 2, 3 strikes you're out Kind of strikes. I was walking back from my lessons this morning, there was a large group of university students in the middle of a main road, buses and cars were stopped. It was a
university student strike. Since I have been in Torino I have been told a hand full of times, perhaps almost weekly, that there is another strike going on for a variety of reasons. Strikes with the union workers happen here more often than not, and in a variety of different areas. It is common also that some transportation workers will go on strike....bus drivers, train drivers, etc.
As far as school goes.. I played a game similar to scattergories with the students this week and it was awesome! For those of you unaware, this game chooses a specific letter a-z and there are about 5 categories. In each category the student must write a word to match with the chosen letter. For example:
-fruit: banana
-sport: baseball
-name: Ben
..and so on. A great game to encourage the students to come up with English words in a competitive way. I also contined to teach about states, this week was Arizona! Students were curious about the Grand Canyon and cactus.
In store for this weekend is a day trip to Verona and whatever else comes at me! Have a nice weekend everyone! Apatently, as informed
by my dad, I have been gone for 50 days as of yesterday....the halfway mark. Is my Italian improving? Not quite!
No par-lo Italiano, mi displace.
Arrivederci!
