Today we visited the town of Como, more of a city really. We have struggled to get away early in the mornings, and then invariably find ourselves waiting 40 mins for a bus, so we arrived just as siesta started at mid day. We enjoyed a walk around the town looking at buildings, the Duomo and beautiful streets as always. Many Como residents ride push bikes and people were whizzing up and down the alleyways. We were wondering where those who do own cars park as there was very little room in the streets for parking. Then we started to notice the big double door entries to the apartments, some of which have a little door cut in for walking through, open into courtyards, where some cars where parked.

We have been blessed for weather, I am touching wood as I write this, as it has been very fine and sunny. Too hot in the sun, but that is better than rain when you are on holidays.

I was starting to think I could be a true Italian, as this trip I have even been enjoying the mixed cold meats and salamis and cheese at breakfast that is until we arrived at this hotel. The food is abysmal!

Tonight for dinner I gorged on 10Euro entry plate of mussels, Mum eat your heart out – there must have been 50 mussels in the bowl! Food seems relatively cheap, as their entrees/starters are pasta/risotto/lasagne and usually about 10Euro, or the mains maybe 15 Euro for meat veal or fish. You do have to add a side of veges or salads as extra as the main comes just with the meat and nothing else. Wine is dirt cheap and seems usually in a carafe. We have stopped picking a specific wine as many restaurants serve it in a carafe not the actual bottle, so we figure the tourists are probably getting the house wine anyway. 2.50 was a ¼ litre tonight or 4 E for a ½ litre, so much cheaper than Aus at $7+ per glass. Must admit though a nice Sav Blanc would go down well.

Dolomites behind I think, then the far peaks which are lighter and pinker (snow covered) are the swiss alps

We were fascinated by this fisherman dropping a net and pulling it back in - he got quite a few fish, then I think got cranky as we were talking to another couple - probably scaring the fish away!

No wonder you have a huge smile John....look at the size of that beer! :)

Isn't it typical. Everywhere else a 'grande' beer was just like a large red wine glass, so this one was a shock! It was one litre!
