The Beach
not my feet So the first two weeks back at work have passed. It has a much calmer rehearsal period then last years. We have three new actors: Sophie, Xander and Eughen. The first week Xander was still on tour doing a panto, so Team Brilliant (now Me, Helen, Sophie, and Eughen) rehearsed most of our shows. Xander arrived on the first Sunday back and the next week was mostly spent rehearsing the new team awesome (Xander, Vic, and Laura) and letting team Brilliant rehearse the shows for the first week out as three’s because all my escaping long workshops finally caught up with me. The first week back on tour, I will not be with Team Brilliant but in Villarbasse teaching two classes of 13 and 14 year olds. It’s not too bad, I start on Wednesday but I will be there until Saturday afternoon. Team Brilliant is coming to the school one day and doing the Gift and some workshops. They’ll be in the hotel so I won’t be alone for too long, I just don’t enjoy the teaching bits nearly as much as the acting. More or less it will be like the work I did for Lingue at the summer
camps. Both classes I have for a little over five hours, in which time I am suppose to work with them on an around the world themed curriculum and have them create and rehearse a show to perform. Been feeling much more chilled out and relaxed this time around. The highlights from these past couple weeks include. Finding out the Eughen read my blog before coming out here and saying both that he enjoyed reading it, that he found it “addicting” and that it answered all his questions about touring, everyone going out for pizza for Sophie’s 22nd birthday. Watching two awesome movies “In Bruges” and “Once”. Writing a new Project Mayhem (a scavenger hunt for everyone, it’s an individual competition this time as the teams will be switched up several times though out the tour so that personalities don’t being the chafe one others like last year......this scavenger hunt should be long enough to last until the tour is over in May), Going to two salsa lessons(one with Raf and Xander and one on my own) and making friends with the bubbly, Russian, female teacher. Going to a hip hop class with Raf, Xander, Vic, and Laura (the second

same rooms, same view, same sun week could have been titled the week of dancing). Getting to have a nice long chat with Mom on Skype. Starting to look for work after May and getting some lovely reply e-mails from companies in: Germany and India. Also hoping to get intouch with a friend of Tanya’s mother who has contacts in the Middle East and Africa. Going “sightseeing” (the the San Remo Musuem and to the Russian Church) as well as sitting on the beach and eating Gelato after our office meeting on Saturday. Going out and revisiting Frog Bar and Papagaio (the salsa club in Arma de Taggia) on Friday night, and getting to know the new company members. Quick descriptions of the newbies. Sophie, beautiful 5’ 11”, 22, very very sweet and fun loving, from England, moms a fibers artest and dad is a 6’ 6” undercover cop, just finished the community theatre (ie theatre/social work) program in East 15 drama school in London (was in the same class as Jack). Xander, also 22, also was in the same graduating class as Sophie and Jack. Use to study dance before a major back injury which forced him to switch to acting, from Gloster, doesn’t drink
and seems to take the role of “responsible one”, always willing to help out, likes computer games and is a self titled “child in a 22 year old body” came up with the Cracker Jack ideas for project mayhem. Eughen, 26, from Blefast, seasoned TIE actor, lots of fun to act with, seems quite comfortable with himself and can be a bit impish. Both the guys have serious girlfriends and seem quite easy going which I think will create a much easier living situation. Lowlights of the past two weeks have been: Blue Beach being F@#$in FREEZING at night, even I woke up from the cold, and Antonio the grumpy guy who manages the hotel refusing to give us heaters even though we had them last time we were here, being board at rehearsals, not having a great start to my attempt to start back on weight watchers, I did well until Saturday, going to get back on the horse Monday, the mysterious NASTY smell in Vic’s and my room (part of which I discovered was my dirty dirty socks), being jealous that team awesome gets to go to Rome for the first two weeks, my adapter breaking AGAIN (now
Sophie
in the sun on saturday I’m on adapter number three) and my bad luck with electronics continuing as the plasma view screen on my camera cracked and broke (again this is why I ALWAYS get a warrantee) and the slightly uphill battle to not be lazy or negative about being back at work. I am encouraged that Helen told me that it was similar last tour, everyone returning was just a little less enthusiastic and it took them a while to get into their usual high energy silly selves.
The Shows Casting is a little different this time around (until February I am)
Three Brother- still Mummy and Timmy
Peter Pan- Nanna (the dog), Captain Hook!
Jungle Book- still Baloo
The Gift- Sheik (Moroccan king) and Manolo (Central American mariachi)
Addams Family- sometimes Wednesday, sometimes Mortissia
Indiana Jones- Marian (blah)
Weight: still too scared to weigh myself, going with Helen on Monday
Fitness: went for a few jogs and three dance lessons as well as going dancing on Friday night
Italian: been having quite a bit of trouble buckling down to study, better in personal interaction then with book in hand…..something’s never change
