Lin Wea
and our dumplings So the last five days have been very relaxing. Felt a little slothful but knowing that I’m going back to work on the 7th I don’t feel too bad. On the first I slept in again, okay so pretty much every day this week I haven’t gotten out of bed for before 10am/10:00. Lin Wae and I went for café in the afternoon, and showed one another pictures of our homes. Lin Wae as well as being an excellent Italian and science student, use to be a design major and volunteered to help me make a wedding present for my friend Elisa and her soon to be hubby Reuben, who are getting married on the 5th….today! So CONGRATULATIONS! By the way congratulations to all the engagements, weddings and babies in the near future: Kevin, Elisa (again), Heather, Katie L. God, I can barely keep myself in clean underwear and feed myself regularly and my friends are off starting families…I feel old, and like I have some catching up to do. No, don’t worry Mom, I still think I’ll let Eli take care of providing the first grandchild, but maybe I should start entertaining the idea of a relationship that lasts longer

beautiful views, with a little humor than a month. In the evening we all went to look at Presepi’s, which are nativity scenes. But they take their Presepi’s very seriously here, were talking full scale replicas of all of Bethlaham along with the manger and baby J and so on. Some are just little nativities in windows and others take up whole studios. On the second I got a bunch of errands done, Tanya sowed the buttons back on my jacket, got some postcards in the mail and in the evening we brought pizza to other friends of the family, who also know Lin Wea. Antinella and Fred are the most adorable couple. She is VERY Italian and he is VERY German, they are Jerry’s webmaster and have just had a new baby, hence us bringing pizza to them. We had a lovely evening together. Lin Wea was very pleased to get a chance to see Antinella and Fred after dinner showed us the most wonderful new years video that played every year in Germany, it’s in English, and you can watch it on youtube at the following address. It’s hysterical. It shows a dinner party that a very old women has with all her friend

infront of an old villa who have since passed away. The only other surviving “friend” is her butler and …..well I’ll let you watch it. On the 3rd we tried to get ourselves out of the house. We, all five of us, in their tiny car spent about two hours on a trip nay a quest to find this castle. First we were going to go to one town, but it was too far and it was too long to spend in the car all five of us (it was about 55 min away). Then we arrived in this town, but it was mostly abandoned due to earthquake damage. Then we headed off to see a castle only to get stuck behind a snowplow in the mountains and when the snowplow started to reverse and turn back we thought it would behoove us to do the same. So then we started driving to the other castle, which turned out to be a piece of one wall with a little chapel that St. Francis had been to. Now I have to explain something, St. Francies having preached someplace, is about as impressive as being in Virginia and staying at an Inn where George Washington slept, and

famous artist from Sepllo, his favorite mediums seems to be: crouching tiger flying monk for those of you who aren’t familiar with the east coast. George Washington over the course of leading the American rebellion against Brittan and being President slept at just about EVERY INN up and down the east coast. Needless to say it was a little anti climactic, and VERY VERY cold, but by this point we were all so giggly it didn’t matter. We eat a nice family style lunch out and then determined to see a castle we went to Assisi, which had the highest coldest wind in the area. It was SO SO windy and even colder, but gosh darn it we saw a castle, and after about 40minuets all asked “can we go home now? It’s cold.” In the evening Lin Wae made/taught me how to make Chinese dumplings which we eat for dinner along with more artichokes (my favorite). I have been eating SO well here, probably too much, but the food is good good good, and free On the 4th Lin Wae finished Elisa and Reubens wedding gift, a beautiful Chinese calligraphy piece wishing them 100 years happiness together. I finished Chuck Palahniuk’s Survivor, I couldn’t but help noticing the similarities between it and

from outside the resteraunt we eat at, no worries they only eat donkey in Venito Fight Club, but still enjoyed it. Relaxed in the afternoon, watched Young Frankenstein with Tanya and Lin Wae and evening went to Alen and Mike’s flat for dinner. They are a lovely couple from Indiana with a flat in Spello. Mike made us an incredible artichoke tofu lasagna, with peppers stuffed with pine nuts as an appetizer. There was lots of wine and good conversations. They both offered to take some stuff back to the states for me to post to some holiday goodies to family. So Eli, Elana, Uncle Mike, and Larry look out (mom too, Larry and Mikes stuff is coming to you). Everything else will be posted from San Remo when I get back. It was a lovely evening though I felt a little awkward for Lin Wae as she got slightly pounded with questions about the Chinese government which she isn’t exactly permitted to answer. This morning all the ladies drove to Perugia. Dropped off Tanya to register at the a university to take the next level of Italian, Lin Wae went studied at this same international university for six months before going to university in Florence. Perugia is quite dark but I would like an

opportunity to visit it again, as everyone here is a little spiffily and we opted to head home after we said good bye to Lin Wae. She wanted to visit for an afternoon before she headed back to university. I feel very lucky to have met her and I hope to see her again soon. This whole holiday has been so nice. Not flashy, not terribly exciting but rejuvenating and I feel truly truly lucky to have such people in my life, so willing in invite me into their life and to treat me as one of the family. How lucky to have them over here, while I’m so so far from home. I’m sure I will sing there parses more in my next entry, but now it’s time for another Cohen’s brother movie and dinner. I’m off to San Remo tomorrow on the 1pm/13:00 train from Spello. I am happy to be going back to work, excited to see the girls and meet the newbies but will miss Tanya and the family, including Lin Wea (and the dog, and the cats, and the chickens, and the house and Spello) very much. Glad to know there all here in Italy
even if were not all together. Just knowing there here is quite a lot.
