View from Campidolgio Today was so exciting! We met at the school at 9AM. We woke up a little late, and didn’t have time to go buy fresh produce like we had discussed the night before, so we got ready and were out the door by 8:30 AM. I was proud. We got to the school, met everyone, and Davide let us out for our tour. Davide is our “boss” of the study center and the Architecture teacher. Emilio will be the art history teacher, and he’s so silly and fun. We all left for the Piazza Nevona and saw so many great churches. I just don’t know where to begin, just be sure to check out the pictures of what I saw today. We saw the Pantheon and some other churches, and then had an hour and a half for lunch. Katie, Erin, and I (we’ve decided to call our selves the Papitas—hot mamas?) and Zach decided to take the tram back to Viale de Trastevere for Pizza Boom. YEA!!! We ate an amazing lunch there, and then headed back to the tram for school. We came back to the center and had more discussion of the classes. Afterwards, us Papitas checked

View from Campidolgio--Erin and I our e-mail and then left. We decided to go find where we are to meet for class tomorrow because it’s in a different location, next to the Monument de Vittoria Emanuele II, the first king of Rome. We found it no problem, and I’m so pleased that I still have my bearings from my visit over Christmas. Once we got to the area where we were meeting we saw several bikers in a bike race for today. We wanted to take pictures with them, so we did and they loved it! They want us to mail it to them and gave us our addresses. They were impressed to see we recognized the Tupperware logo on their jerseys. Hehehe. That was fun. We took some goofy pics by the statues, and then I realized that I came to this area over Christmas and if we went through an alley, we’d have a view of the forum and the Colloseum. So we walked through, Katie & Erin were totally amazed, and we paused for more pics.
We agreed to go find the Trevi Fountain and as we were walking back down the stairs to the street, we saw the end of
First day of School
Got my books, got my lunch! I'm set! a wedding outside this magnificent church with gobs of stairs leading up. The bride was waiting in the car, a Bentley, and she was so beautiful. We took pictures of her, and then carried on. We found the Trevi Fountain off of Via del Corso, with the help of some fellow Americans from L.A. who were on vacation. I love meeting new people! Via del Corso has some great shops—Chanel, Feragamo, Prada, Gucci, etc. So high fashion—I love it! We found the fountain, but it was so crowded. The crowds will die in the next few weeks because the Europeans will return to school and work from the summer holiday, so we decided we’d come back several more times. This fountain is so magnificent and I really am starting to feel that there’s hardly enough time to fully experience Rome, let alone travel and see other cities in Europe! AGH! But it’s great anyways.
Zach was coming over to our apt. for dinner, and we still had to buy groceries, so we left and went to our Aldi—called Tuodi. I hadn’t been yet, and I actually love it! It’s really cheap and they have all kinds of things. I bought “Riso de Cantonese”—basically a rice with Cantonese flavoring, but I was excited. Before we went to Tuodi we stopped by the shop next door where Katie and I had asked for directions on Saturday to a place to buy cell phones. The same lady was there and although her English was limited, she was so nice so we wanted to say hi. Her store is very odd though—cheap nick-nacks similar to a garage sale, but really funny. They have balloons, but they’re called “swollen balls”. Hahahahaha! Anyways, we introduced ourselves and found out she’s trying to learn English, and since we’re trying to learn Italy we agreed to come by every few days to talk with her. I love our new friends! I took the heavy groceries from Tuodi home while Erin & Katie went to a nicer, more specialized grocery.
Zach arrived, and Katie’s dinner was fabulous. She made a fruit plate, salad with feta, tomatoes, and olives, egg plant, penne pasta with mushroom sauce, and kabobs for Erin and her because Zach is also a vegetarian. Yea! More people saving animals—I love it! Zach left, and now we’re chilling.
Grant really likes the other humanities kids apartment. Apparently it’s very modernized and has wireless internet, but I really like ours. I didn’t just come to Rome to study, but to grow up and learn more about myself and life. And I feel like our apartment is great—it’s huge and although mismatching, is really teaching me a lot. I don’t mind not having internet, because I can get it at the school and I need to not take a luxury for granted. Moreso, it has character, and I love that. I think this is going to be great semester.
