yes thats right i'll be coming back to Rome yes we do...
but the pope does not...
okay this is the second time ive written this... the first was amazing... could give bill bryson a run for his money but the internet timed out... so this time may not be as good. sorry....
we started the day off checking into out second hostel in Rome, this being one of the nicer places we've stayed at, plug sockets, morror, the works. and the bill showed it, but whatever. when in Rome. There were friendly people at the desk aswell, some girl told us about the numbers she saw in her head...
Off to the sights. First stop Trevi Fountain. Everything is a bit of a walk in Rome but a good one, the streets are just so lovely and its pretty easy to navigate yourself around aswell which is nice. We stopped off for a nectarine as it seems no day is complete without one, and Rome prooved to be Europes best spot for a good nectarine (lonley planet take note). Then we stumbled upon a big statue thing with people around it looking confused, as were me and clo. And yes, we had found the Trevi Fountain,
Trevi Fountain
Laura will be coming back here too. only no water. Rubbish. People were still crowded round though throwing money behind them. (People were doing this twice, once properly which inevitably didnt catch on the camera, and again in slo mo for the family album, the perfect action shot, check out mone and clo's). so yeah, it eventually filled up again which actually was cool to watch as it all kind of came back to life. very pretty indeed.
so yes that was lovely then we decided to walk around the rest of the day sight seeing as we went. next stop the pantheon. which was again just so lovely. i was surprised at how taken aback by it i was but it was just he light the grandure of the place. it was just unexpected.
then carried on to a place that was suggested to us for coffee and a spot of people watching. so we did just that, two iced coffees later, we got up and continued to stroll around the city.
Eventually we came to the river which has to be said is the best river in a city so far. just the trees and the bridges and the water. its actually like
Pantheon Part 1
Looking up at.. a proper countryside river, unlkie most city river which are just mouldy sludge. So this was a refreshing change.
To the vatican we trotted with the highest of expectations. When we saw it the night before it was so peaceful. Serene. Lovely. It still looked pretty special today only with the most tourists i have ever seen and they all travel in packs?! packs of kids with matching coloured baseball hats. random... so we qued. and we qued in the midday heat.. it was all going to be worth it though... we passed all the guards throught the security check and then the sholder check and then the shorts check. which i failed...
chole got in (she can fill you in on details)
i sat on some steps.
but we were going to swap shorts after she got out so that was okay. apparently it was wonderful in there we were off to the loos to swap when we realised we'd gone out the bloody exit and as much as we pleeded to the security guard he wasn't having any of it.
so we left.
More walking and we got to the shops just rows and rows of
Pantheon Part 2
the big round ceiling designer shops, one day...
Nap time.
Dinner.
We found a place that was reviewed in the guide book saying how lovely the waiters were 'tall dark and handsome'. and the food was good too. So more walking ( which actually i did enjoy so much, i dont want you to think the walking was a drag because it really wasnt. its actually the best way to get to know a city methinks) so yes, we found this restaurant whch was really cute and we had wine and vegetables and even a desert. we went all out. we deserved it. the waiters were a bit of a let down but the rest was perfect.
Then we went to the 'arty' if you will part of the city for a drink. it was nice there but i doubt monday is the best night to go and it was pretty late by then too so next time ill have to see it more. had a drink, chloe had her first margerita which was vile. my coca cola light on the ither hand was splended (so i shared).
then taxi as we missed the last metro and home. The
I only got a few good photos
My digital camera has been playing up, this is one of the best photos i got inside the vatican drivers are maniacs there. real nutters. no indication, and i distinctly remember being told to turn in to a street in 2nd gear. there was cirtanly none of that. but exciting none the less.
rome is an amzing city and i definatly want to go back.
and we went to the vatican again the next day so i got to see it. hehe.
