All aboard Air Emirates
The girls were so excited Our flight into Rome was really lovely as almost the entire plane was empty and we could each take window seats and make beds out of them. At the airport in Rome, we picked up our luggage and tried to find a shop to buy a European sim card for my cell phone as we needed to contact our hosts in Europe. After a hell of a lot of trouble we finally managed to find Max who was waiting for almost half an hour in the airport parking for us. I had initially not had a host in Rome as I was under the impression Rimini was near Rome and so I had only arranged accomodation in Rimini, but lucky for me when I was planning the trip, I had an Italian cser stay at my place, who told me Rimini was three hours away from Rome, So a month before we were to leave on our big adventure, I had to frantically try to find a host in Rome. It was very difficult as the CSers in Rome were only single guys looking to host single females and we were a family, but of course I have a lot of
Flying in comfort
Our flight was so empty that we could sleep comfortably across three seats each!!! friends and I just called on one of them for help and lo and behold Giampiero to the rescue!! He did not live in Rome but he had some friends there and to cut a long story short, his friend Max let us stay at his apartment whilst he stayed with his parents - that was just so sweet!!
Max's apartment was lovely, a huge bedroom with an even huger bed, a lounge, kitchen and a bathroom, but the first day was awful as Max dropped us off at the apartment and left, saying he would be back later to take us out. The girls were hungry and there was not enough gas in the stove to cook the noodles which we brought for emegencies, so we just barely managed to boil some water to soften the noodles and ate some of the food we took from the plane. It was also freezing (4degrees celcius) - the girls need to take a bath, and we have no clue how to turn the hot water on!!!
I go outside to ask this man that I see coming out of the next apartment, but he
Meeting Giampiero at the airport
Giampiero was leaving for his trip out of Italy, so we waited at the airport to say hello and goodbye to him does not speak any English. I go back inside and try the water again, then all three of us go outside on the street and just ask random passersby if they could tell us how to get the hot water started, no one spoke English. Eventually someone from the apartment upstairs comes into the building and we ask her, and thankfully she knows how it works!!! Thank God for small mercies.
We take a bath and it is a bucket bath inside the tub same as we do it back home. We get dressed with all heaters switched on high and wait for Max's return to take us sightseeing. As tired as we are from the long flight, we are really excited to go out into the City of Rome
