Pompei to Rome

Hello!

I can't believe it's already Thursday! Time is flying by. Yesterday morning we left Sorrento and visited the ruins of Pompei. It was super interesting looking at all the remains and trying to imagine hundreds upon hundreds of years ago. We walked the grounds with a tour guide for about an hour learning about all of the history. Around 12:00pm we left for lunch at the pizzaria. We ate four rounds of Italian Pizza. Of course, it was delicious and we were v-e-r-y full!! The trip to Rome was about 4 hours so we stopped at an old Royal Spanish Palace and to see the entire site! Several walked the 2 miles down to the waterfall through the royal gardens while others of us folks just took the bus! 😊 It was a nice break from the road and definitely a beautiful landmark. We went straight to our hotel in Rome and had dinner: Pasta, chickery (sp?) & veal. Everyone enjoyed it and then the lights went out! The crowd stood up and sang happy birthday to me and presented me with a delicious cake and card that everyone had signed. It was a real surprise. To cap the night we took the bus over to a neighboring town to eat some ice cream and have coffee. FINALLY it was bedtime. I can't believe the kids are still able to stay up watching movies and talking when the adults are nearly about to pass out!?!

This morning we have toured Rome all day: the Vatican, Colosseum, Pantheon, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain and much more. As usual, it's been a long day but worth every minute.

The kids have been outstanding and have acted as mature young adults. I couldn't have asked for a better group!
