Sunday, 27th May, 2012 – Sorrento, Italy We have decided to stay in Sorrento for another night (tomorrow) and will be leaving on Tuesday – still haven’t decided our destination…. We’ll work that out in the morning. The extra day was to see a few more things in this great part of the world.
Today we visited Pompeii, and Herculeum – both towns being victims of the earthquake and eruption of Vesuvius. In total, we walked for about 6 hours, caught trains there and back which took a good hour each way, so again, we’re exhausted – but thoroughly enjoying it.
We both thought Herculeum was better than Pompeii – less people, better preserved buildings and artefacts.
It was hard to comprehend that after reading about these towns for so many years, that we were actually walking the streets of such historic places.
We left about 09:00 this morning and didn’t return to the hotel until about 17:30 (5:30pm) – a long, but satisfying day.
