FIANLLY HERE
After hours on the train we arrive and have no idea where to go. I fugured I would at least take this pic incase we never made it to the ruins, I would at least have proof we tried!!! Hey,
Sorry it has been a while since I have written. We have been on the go so much I havent had much time to chill and write. Last I left off we were just leaving Rome. When we woke up in the morning we went straight to the train station headed for Naples. While on the train I started to read about how shady Naples was and how you have to watch your belongings at all time. I started to get a little sketched out. Also my back was really bothering me all day so I was in no mood!! When we finally arrived in Naples we realized that we were actually staying at a hostel like 30 minutes out of this city in a small town called Portichi. We could not for the life of us figure out how the hell to get to this town. We were swarmed with cab drivers telling us they would take us for 40 euro!!!
Finally Travis found a train that stopped in Portachi. So on the train we went again. When we got off the train we literally were in the middle of nowhere. An abondoned town on the coast. It
The Ruins of Pompeii
14 miles long and completly frozen in time!! It was really amazing. was quite beautiful. We had hopes to go back to Naples and to the Museum but those failed as we were quite hungover from our last night in Rome!!!
We had to hike up this hill on a cobblestone road. Sorry Mom wheels dont really fly on that kinda road!! By the time I put my backpack on my back was throbbing. Probably from the dancing the night before!! When we finally found the hostel I felt like we were in the twighlight zone. It was this beautiful old fabric factory in this middle of this bizarre town. Quite a haven!!! Travis and I decided we had to take a nap and headed up to the room. We had our own shower!! Bear in mind I have not showered in a hot shower in 4 days. Our nap turned into a 4 hour siesta and by the time we woke up we had completly wasted our first day in Naples. We went out for dinner and walked around the town a bit.
Portachi is quite different from Rome. It is a small town with really no tourists. There are no attractions there or anything of great interest.
The
Bodies
Frozen from the Ashes of the Volcano. Its amazing you can see their facial expressions. next morning we set out for Pompeii. One thing I can say about Italy or at least Southern Italy is no one wants to help you. You ask them a question and they answer loud and forcefully as if you should know what you are talking about. Like which train goes to Pompei- they just yell...yes Pompeii...Alura....Yes....you go....
...on a quick note I cant figure out how to use this keyboard so I cant put in any question marks or quotations...so bear with me...
By the time we got out of the hostel and walked to the train station we had to wait 30 minutes for the train to Pompeii to come. When it did we boarded and road another 30 mintues to the town of Pompeii. Only we got off on the wrong stop and had to wait another 30 minutes to go back one stop. By this time I was so annoyed and frustrated I just wanted to go back to the hostel, but we carried on. Finally we arrived in Pompeii and when we got off the train it was the same thing...how the fuck do we get to the site. There were no

In the entry way of the palace. It is meant to ward off evil spirits. signs anywhere only taxi drivers in Pintos offering us rides telling us it is very far. We hooked up with this older couple from Australia who heard that the yellow bus takes you to the Ruins. We waited...AGAIN.
By the time we got to Pompeii I was hot, tired, frustrated, and so annoyed at not knowing what was going on or not understanding anyone.
However once we got into the ruins my attitude changed. It was amazing to be in this town of 20,000 people that had been frozen in time. We walked around for miles and saw amazing palaces and paintings all stuck in time from the Volcano erruption. One thing I can say about this ancient city is they are all perverts. Like seriously. They had Penis statues all over which were to protect and ward off bad spirits. They also had brothels all over with paintings of different sexual positions that you could essentially order before you went into the room. There were even beds perfectly frozen from the gases and ash of the Volcano. There are miniature penis statues all over that secretly direct you in the area of the brothels. Really this was
A bed from the Brothel
All marble and ashes!!! one sexually active community!!! We saw human bodies that had been frozen in time when the ash fell on them. I remembered reading about this town when I was little and was quite amazed to finally be there. It was really a neat experience. When we were ready to leave we had been there all afternoon and were really tired. We hiked down to the bus station and got on the train headed for Portaci. The only problem is we both fell asleep. When we woke up we realized we had travled an hour into FREAKING NAPLES!!!! AHHHHHHHH....you can only imagine how mad we were. Then it took another 30 minutes to figure out where the hell to go and what train to take back to Portici. 2 wrong trains later we finally were home. What a DAY!!!!!! I think we just went back had a few drinks and went to sleep. Travis and I had the major case of the giggles after this day. We decided Naples is shady, Portici is really the twilight zone and its time to head to Florence!!!! Gellato here we come....

Firenze
While you're in Florence, be sure to have some Limoncello. BUT! It's even better if you go to Cinque Terre (not far from Florence) and have it there. Seriously! Glad you guys are living it up!
