We have an exciting day planned for today, as we are heading to the Isle of Capri by ferry! We all met down at the Minori jetty at 8:45, even though our ferry wasn't due to depart until 9:10. Of course it wasn't on time but was only a few minutes late and we boarded and were on our way. We settled in upstairs for our two hour trip, positioning ourselves in the best spot for photos along the way. We actually got to see the whole coastline that we had driven along the previous day, and the ferry made stops at Amalfi amd Positano, so it was nice to see these places from another perspective.
Once we arrived on Capri, Michele explained to us some of the things we could do today. The ferry stops at the Capri Marina area, then there is a funicular up to the village of Capri or you can walk up about 1,000 steps to Ana Capri. Everyone chose the funicular up to the top - except Clare, Robyn, Nick, Vicky and I. Suckers for punishment! We started off, a little unsure of the way but there were some locals along the way that
we're happy to point us in the right direction. There weren't too many other crazy people taking the option we took, hence why we wondered if we were on the right track. It was hot, hard work as the steps were quite high and the humidity was ridiculous! It took us about an hour to reach the Villa San Michele (except Clare, who seemed to zoom up!). We had all agreed that we deserved a big, icey cold beer, so that exactly where we headed once we got to the top. I also had a lovely salad for lunch and finally started to cool down a bit.
After lunch we shopped for a while - there are some lovely shops on these beautiful cobbled streets. We had wanted to get the chair lift up to the highest point but had run out of time if we wanted to also visit Capri. We made the decision to jump in a cab and head to Capri. The cabs in Capri are all open topped and cool little cars, so it was a nice way to travel. We had some time to walk around Capri and I was mostly in awe of
the obvious wealth - definitely the lifestyles of the rich and famous!
Even though it was an easy walk back down to the marina we decided to get the funicular, just for the fun of it. Once we were down there, we walked around for a bit, while we waited for the group to gather. Our ferry departed Capri at 4:30 and it was nice relaxing on the open top on our way back to Minori, once again stopping at Positano and Amalfi.
We had a free night for dinner but Michele said if anyone was interested in having dinner at Giardiniello tonight he would book a table. I was hungrier tonight than last night and was keen to have the pasta Clare had last night. Clare, Robyn and I said yes and then Judith, Jacqui, Angie and Shalla also wanted to come along. So we all freshened up in our rooms then meet at 7:45 and walked to the restaurant. The maƮtre d' remembered us from the previous night so that was nice. It is such a lovely restaurant so we are lucky it's only 5 mins from our hotel! I had the pasta and it was
divine! Clare chose the same as Michele, which was the octopus which she said was delicious but she still wished she had that pasta again haha. We all had a very lovely meal and enjoyed the smaller group atmosphere.
After dinner Robyn and I decided to go to bar where they made the ceramics, for a drink. I got to meet the guy who owns it and also creates the art - he told me off for skipping the ceramics class! I enjoyed a local gin and tonic and Robyn had a local beer. Fun night!
