Allison & Jubilee in DIA
Our 6am flight to start the trip, worked out perfectly because it happened to be Memorial Day, and were able to get through customs at 4am. Beating the crowds. Jubi did better than I expected. There were a few other dogs there and she just ignored them. Welcome back to my TravelBlog.
I feel really old writing a blog. Replaced by Instagram, Facebook and....Tik Tok?....This style of writing is really out of date. But it's still the best way to make a complete journal of my trips. You can read as little or as much as you want.
I still love going back and reading my old posts. I'm so glad I spent time in the Internet Cafes in Spain and South America and all of the other places writing them. It feels really good to continue the story.
After some difficult years, lost in the sea of life, I'm on a long trip again. This time with my wife, Allison! Seeing the continuation of this blog shows how perfect we are for each other. I don't know anyone else that would go to Italy for three months for no particular reason. We traveled to Campania and the Amalfi Coast a year ago for our honeymoon and fell in love. We both work best when we are challenged and moving to a foreign country, with our big dog and without knowing the language, spoke to us.
We just landed in Naples with Jubilee, our
Jubilee's First Flight
Jubi isn't the smallest dog. But she did great being at our feet. As long as she's close to us, she's ok. beautiful Pit Bull Service Dog Daughter. It's the first day of our 3-month trip to a foreign world, with no itinerary except three separate Airbnbs, booked for one month each.
Jubilee came with us. She is my Seizure Alert Dog and she did so great on the 13+ hours of plane travel. Everyone loved her and she made one of our flight attendants cry. I can't believe we brought her with us, but I'm so glad we did.
Denver to Newark: 4hrs
Newark to Naples: 9hrs
During our 4-hour layover in New Jersey, we caught an Uber-Pet to Weequahic Park. Jubi got to roll around in the grass and take a much-needed potty break before our international transfer. I speed-walked to a Popeye's to grab a Chicken Sandwich and Mashed Potatoes for lunch, while Allison and Jubi played in the grass.
It was my first time in New Jersey and that part of the East Coast and it felt like a foreign country in itself. It was a hot and humid Memorial Day. Little league baseball games in beautiful fields, people grilling in the park and exercising on park equipment. Families on their porches, escaping
Resting before the flight
We brought this pad to be her safe place, letting her know that this is where she can rest. It worked really well. the heat of their rectangle homes, facing the park. Talking loudly, laughing, and yelling across the street. Lots of trash everywhere, high-rise low-income elderly apartment complexes, and boarded-up buildings. The cop cars were dirty and sounded like they were about to fall apart. I saw the aftermath of a major accident and blocked off crime scene, but with only one smashed car on the street…? I loved it. I hurried back from the Popeye's with food in hand, sweating like crazy, and found Allison and Jubi playing in the grass. We quickly ate and finished one more potty break then called another Uber-Pet back to the Airport.
The next leg was long. A 9-hour flight, with Jubi at our feet. She did great but just like all of us people, she got a little restless 3/4 of the way through. It got a little hot and stuffy so we turned on the air full blast and eventually let her sit on our laps and even let her lick the mango sorbet spoon. Everyone loved her.
We arrived at a busy Naples airport and walked straight out to our driver, Sassi. Who previously drove us to the airport at
Weehoquioc Park, Newark, New Jersey
We found the closest park to the airport for a roll in the grass and potty break during our Newark layover 4am for our honeymoon. I still had his WhatsApp number and I contacted him and arranged the pickup a few weeks before we arrived.
Customs didn't ask about Jubi at all. No papers required. Very little security entering the country. Nice and easy. No Covid questions. We kept showing people our Vaccination Cards and no one cared.
Sassi drove us through the busy streets to our hotel as we tried to speak a little Italian. We were quickly reminded that we can't speak Italian at all...are we crazy for coming here for 3 months without knowing the language? Yes.
Our first hotel, Culture Hotel Villa Capidomonte was beautiful. On the top of a hill, above the hustle and bustle of Naples.
We took showers and quickly headed into the craziness for pizza and acqua frizzante. Being in the busy, dirty, loud streets of Naples felt good. But no one spoke English in Naples, the hotel staff was a little rude to us and we had a big Pit Bull with us. We had a definite feeling of, "this for sure isn’t our honeymoon."
The next day we feasted on free pastries and cappuccinos from an

She was really happy to roll in grass and have some loving time. automatic machine at the hotel and then took Jubi to the only park we could find. Palacio Bosco di Capidomonte. A beautiful expansive park with museums and fountains and groups of school children in uniforms everywhere. But, all of the grass was roped off. Nowhere for a dog to do her business. So we snuck into the corner woods.
We hurried back to pack up and meet our Taxi Driver for our Ferry ride to Ischia. We packed up quickly and met the stern driver in the lobby and took off. He drove us into the busy Naples port and ran us through to the Ferry. We got on just in time and the Ferrys are exactly on time. No messing around.
Jubi did great on the Ferry and once again, everyone loved her. Even the rough boat workers.
We got into Porto di Ischia and quickly met our taxi driver on the other side and were off to our Villa Petroni. We arrived to meet Sona, our Airbnb host. She didn't speak any English, so we struggled through the first conversation and learning the rules of the Villa. We ended up using the Airbnb app to
Jubilee Play Time
It turned out to be a beautiful day and beautiful park for our layover just message each other back and forth because it translated our messages. She was so kind and brought us lemons from her trees and Nespoles, which are really small orange-like fruits that you eat with the skin and all.
We made it. Our new Italian home for the first month is simple and quaint. It has an incredible view of the coast and a small shaded yard area with a small wooden swing and a hammock just for us. and Gubilea. An incredible journey to get us to an incredible place.
