We were sent a message last night to let us know that the husband of a couple who have an apartment in our block in Cyprus died suddenly the day before – he was only about 62 if that. Very sad.

Also discovered last night that the last camp site in Italy we had chosen to stay before our ferry to Greece has altered it's opening times & will be shut when we need it to be open. So, we're staying here for 7 nights & as it turns out it's stay 6 & get 7th free in the off season anyway.

Up early to catch the 9.20 bus which was 15 minutes late. Into town & the bus driver dropped us off outside the shop – great service. Having used Google translate to tell the shop owner what was wrong, he said new axle & bearings, 15 Euros + labour; or new aluminium wheel, the works for 25. Agreed on the latter & it was ready in the hour. Had a coffee on the pavement & a wander. Found a brilliant shop run by a Chinese man that sold everything so was able to buy a couple of things we needed for Billy.

Then off to catch the bus home – which failed to arrive, even having waited an extra 30 minutes & checked with the tourist office across the road. Headed back into town, saw a sign for a 24 hour taxi service – the office was closed & the phone wasn't answered. Back to the main square & not a taxi in sight. Stopped a random woman who spoke a little English who rang a taxi firm & the taxi rank stand phone right next to us rang...So she kindly went into a bar & asked for us, re-emerged & told us to stand over there & catch a SITA bus at 1.30. A bus arrived roughly around 1.30 – no he didn't stop at Lido Salpi...then he changed his mind & said get on. He wouldn't accept any fare which we thought was odd; we then realised we had boarded what must have been a school bus which was taking 40 odd teenagers home & he dropped us outside the gates!

Walked up the drive to be greeted by Janet & Peter from the previous site.. Lunch, fixed wheel & cleaned the chains with a nifty device which Pamela & Richard had bought us – very handy!

Met a lovely Swiss couple, early 70's who were travelling in an unheated, very basic VW van & had left home 14 months ago! They were heading back to Zurich to see his doctor, his children & grandchildren & then they were off again...remarkable.

Tomorrow, a visit to the supermarket to stock up & maybe test out the new wheel on the country roads; we know how to live...
