So, on our first day in Douglas, we took the bus to Castletown because Sue wanted to go to Castle Rushen again and see a bit of the town. Mike went in to the Castle, too, this time but not up the scary spiral staircase. Smart guy! The displays and information about the castle through time are really interesting. Mike stayed in the Banquet Room for a while, blending in to the display, and scaring folks when he answered their questions. We wandered around a bit, heading 'towards' the train station and caught the train to Port Erin, the end of the line. Stopped for lunch and then wandered around a bit. The wind off the water was VERY strong. After tea and cake at the little tea house at the station, we took the train ... read more

Slept great, despite the sheep (haha). No rooster but the sun rose about 5 to a gorgeous morning. Our first breakfast at the B&B--there was a menu of sorts we completed the night before, checking off how much of which items we wanted. In addition to bacon and a farm-fresh egg, I ordered the croissant and boy, was Mike jealous. Piping hot, soft, flaky, topped off with home-made marmalade--yummy!! His kipper was quite good; he ate it like a pro. Company at breakfast was pleasant. A couple others got a soft-boiled egg, just like in BBC shows, served in an egg holder. One of the eggs was blue and the hostess, Fiona, was quite proud of it; she bred the chickens specially for that. As they were going to church in Peel, the hosts gave us ... read more

Right, so I've found a place that rivals rural Wales for its quietness on a Sunday - there is no one out and nothing is open haha. I mean the heritage places are still open, and some stores in Douglas have very limited hours, but wow is it ever quiet. I took the bus to Castletown - on the way I noticed we passed the "Old Horse Sanctuary" which I need to google when I'm back at my BnB tonight. I haven't been horseback riding in forever - I'd very much settle for an hour looking at pretty horses and feeding them. Castletown is quiet enough on a weekday lol, so there was nothing going on today. I wandered along the bay - nothing special, just a lot of Arctic terns and swans which I guess ... read more

We travelled to Castletown (Manx: Balley Chashtal) from Peel through Douglas by bus number 1. Main destinations in Castletown were Castle Rushen and Old House of Keys. First we directed to Castle Rushen and we noticed thai castle is different than the Peel Castle. This castle was built during Vikings had power on the island and it might consider as well good example of medieval architecture. Castle Rushen was built in 13th century and at present it is used as museum, court house and education centre. Most part of this castle runs as museum and it is managed by Manx Heritage. Inside this narrow roomed castle we can admire for nice exhibition and feel like one of inhabitants. This castle had to been very difficult to capture as we noticed because walls are quite high and ... read more
