We had a walk around the pleasant town of Wexford including the 14th Century Westgate Tower through the town’s ancient walls, the remains of Selskar Abbey, The Bull Ring which was a rallying point for politicians, the Anglican St Iberius’s Church which is broader than it is long to accommodate its site adjacent to the town’s walls and finally The Crescent, a semi-circular part of the quays.

Afterwards we started our journey north along the narrow coast road and included a visit to Wexford Wildlife Reserve, an area of reclaimed wet land two metres below sea level. It is the winter home to Greenland White Fronted Geese and Brent Geese from Canada. They had all returned to their native countries but there were a few year round birds to see.

Our stop for the night was the Wolohan Silver Strand Caravan Park just south of the town of Wicklow. It occupies a spectacular cliff top location with views over the Irish Sea and steps down to its own sandy cove.
