One of our guides in Northern Ireland, Brandon, told us about taking a basket making class in Spiddal, a craft village near Galway. We had seen it from the road when returning both from Inishmore and from Connemara and went out today. it was raining off and on but the village was designed to be walked around. The glass artist was closed but the potter, basket weaver, a couple painters, and the leather and Celtic coin jeweler were open. Had a great time in the jeweler’s shop, Eric Byrne. Got some Connemara marble earrings, a claddagh ring, And a couple old Irish coins from in Mikes birth year.

We had a walking food tour scheduled for mid-afternoon and, after a rest, headed off to that. Great host, good food and drink, including a Guinness. Also nice because there was only one other couple and they were very pleasant and accommodated our slower pace. Not much rain and what there was was light. Also went by the Hall of the Red Earl, an archaeological site on Druid Lane in the middle of the Latin Quarter, 13th century counting house unearthed when they were building the new Revenue building! Didn’t know there were so many colors of willow. They have their own trees but import some varieties. Pleasant artist, nice chat.
within the medieval walls of Galway (some of the wall may be seen through a window in the floor of the Aran Wool shop near the Spanish Arch). The hall, which was later an iron works, is encased in glass and you walk through and over it, with explanatory signs along the walkway, displaying some of the thousands of artifacts.

well, tomorrow we travel back to Dublin so we headed back to see if we could get everything squished in. The sweaters we bought were shipped for free so that was helpful.
