We arrived in Dublin to gray skies and chilly temperatures at 8:30 a.m. We went through customs a and caught the bus to our hostel. Fortunately we met a very nice bus driver. The ride should hve taken 1 hour but lasted 4 hours because of road closings due to a visit by the queen. She hasn't been here since 1911 and had to pick today. The bus driver said she is headed to Cork some time this week, just as we are. We should have checked out our itinerary with her before hand. There are over 4,000 guards on the streets as you can see in some of the pictures. The city is also crowded with thousands of rowdy soccer fans from Portugal. Two teams from there are competing in the finals tonight and the boisterous fans are filling every restaurant, bar and street ,
all donning their colors (red or blue) and waving their scarves.Of course we had to visit some famous pubs in the Temple Bar area. We stopped at Oliver St. John Gogarty Pub which has live Irish entertainment from 1:00p.m. til 2:30 a.m. Nest stop was Temple Bar which was also packed and had live

Irish entertainment. Some of the other sites we saw today were St. Stephen's Green, a 22 acre city park,Grafton Street , a long street of shops, restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops, Trinity College, and St. Mary's Cathedral. An observation we made today is that the houses city streets in residential areas all have their small front yards closed in by iron fences or bricked walls. Most of the architecture is old brick facade as seen in some of the photos.
The hostel provides many free things one of which was a pasta and salad dinner tonight. They also have free international phone calls to 40 countries, continental breakfast, open kitchen with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate 24 hours a day, and free hugs (anytime).

Soup was very good with big chunks of chicken and homemade fresh bread. Also notice the water carafe. It has fresh mint leaves and lemon in it. Very Tasty!
