Last remaining piece of the original castle; it used to be a prison for the worst felons. Well everyone, I have excellent news and beautiful pictures to show you all! It's official....I have a job AND a place to live! I've totally lucked out and I am so excited that it's been a little over a week and I'm already getting settled in. I was hired by a recruitment company who sends temporary office workers to outside clients and I start next week at my first position; printing financial reports for AIB bank. I'm a little nervous, but can't wait to start taking in some cash! A Canadian girl who is leaving Ireland this week needed another renter for her roommates and it just so happened that I was looking for a place just as she was leaving. So I officially put down the deposit on the apartment today and I'll be moving in on Sunday! It's a cute little 2-bedroom flat, nothing extraordinary except for the location. From my living room window you can see Dublin Castle and City Hall around the back. You literally cannot get a more central location for a flat and the rent is so incredibly reasonable for the area, I'm SO happy. My roommates are also really chill and fun, so I
think I'm really going to love living there.
Since I don't start work until next week, I've been able to enjoy myself a little bit and actually do some intensive sight-seeing. Yesterday me and a friend went on a 3-hour walking tour of Dublin which was really neat. I've already seen most of the stuff, but not up close and definitely not with the storytelling flair of our hilarious guide. I now have learned all of the history of Ireland and Dublin and the special significance of a lot of buildings and statues I've sort of taken for granted. I already have a couple of more walking tours planned, that take you into the Guinness Storehouse and St. Patrick's Cathedral; but I'm going to wait until I get my first paycheck before I go tourist spending crazy. However, the "splurge" to buy tickets to see an epic rivalry between Kilkenny and Dublin play in hurling, as well as a Gaelic football match I think will be well worth it. That's tomorrow, so I'll be sure to take lots of pictures.
The weather here continues to get warmer and it's really lovely to have such an early spring, with
trees and plants already coming into bloom. One thing I have to get used to however is the wind. For those of you who have lived on the coast, you will understand, but until you've lived on an island near the sea you can't imagine how strong the gales can become. Luckily it's been a warm wind, but it still feels like walking into a brick wall that wants to keep pushing you back, it's crazy! We've also seen a little bit of rain, but since we're coming into the best time of year in Ireland, it usually clears up by the afternoon. We had a going-away party of a couple of Canadian USIT members who are leaving and it was really sad, but tons of fun as well. I've made such good friends with the Canadians here already and I think we're definitely going to have a good time together. Well I'm off to go cook a fancy meal to celebrate (it's only pasta, but trust me, that's a luxury when you're on a budget living in a hostel!) so hugs and kisses to everyone, love you lots!
xoxo Sarah
