I would have got better pictures but sketchy junkies were hanging around and they scared me asking for money :( I've definitely been a busy bee this week so far and with good results! It was time to really start the job hunt in earnest and yesterday alone I must have handed out at least 20 resumes. I literally scoured the Northside of Dublin and went into every shop I could find. When you're homeless and jobless like me, you'll take what you can get! I definitely had a few promising discussions; however tourist season doesn't really kick off until another month or so, so we'll have to see where that leaves me.
This new hostel I'm staying at is really great and their breakfast is ahmazing! I eat so much for breakfast I feel like a stuffed pig, so I get a delicious Irish breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, their funky wheaty toast and lots of fruit and granola. If the weather's nice I sit outside in the little garden and it's a lot more peaceful and relaxing than the youth hostel I was in last week. Today was the first day it's actually rained in Dublin (can you believe it?) but I think I can handle rain in Ireland. Instead of
Pretty little church
I saw this tucked in between all of these building on my walk home today, it was so pretty! just pouring buckets, it lightly mists and sometimes falls in more substantial drops; unfortunately it tends to last all day but it's hilarious to see them all hunched up with umbrellas while I'm strolling happily around in my rain jacket.
Today was quite the adventure: dun dun dun...I had to go reallyyyy far south for an interview with a temping agency and had my first experience with the Dublin buses. I don't know if all European buses are like this, but they're system is completely confusing and ridiculous. Luckily, the bus drivers are legendary for their patience, so I ended up on time, where I needed to be which is all the matters. Dublin has to have literally 60 different bus routes and millions of stops all over the city so trying to find the right bus and be there at the right time is almost impossible. Then you have to flag the right one down, tell the driver where you're going and hopefully get the change exactly right. Mine was nice and told me when my stop was, because otherwise I would have been totally lost.
So when
everyone was telling me about "southside" like it was some sort of gangster turf and they hated the "northside" I can totally see why. Whereas I get to walk home down sketchy alleys with junkies accosting you in broad daylight, the south is completely pristine and beautiful, with fancy buildings like the other colleges, museums and all of the lawyers and doctors offices. It has made me strongly reconsider living on that side of the Liffey that's for sure! Anyways, my interview went splendidly and I may already have a job! It's quite far outside of the city, but if the pay is as good as I think as well as the hours, it will be totally worth it. I may also have an apartment too so everything is slowly coming together. I'm heading off to bed soon to prepare for another interview tomorrow, so lots of love to everyone and I will write again soon!
xoxo Sarah
