"Snouts in the Trough!" screams the headline of the morning paper. Meanwhile, we are more than comfortably settled in Dublin, and have been told that Ireland is also struggling with this global recession. On the streets this is not apparent, at least not judging from the hordes of shoppers and party-goers that we waded through last night. In our hotel room, I am in a quandry: which pillow should I order from the Pillow Menu? Should I go for The Relaxer, ideal for those who wish to settle down to a good book? Or should I experiment with the Night Flight, made entirely of goose down? The Northern Feather caresses the back of your neck (that's nice) while the Spiral Loft offers firm support to the weary head (mine is). I finally settle for The Comforter, because it is ideal for allergy sufferers and guarantees a luxurious night's sleep. Susceptible as ever, it has worked for me, and I slept like a log, which is probably an American expression invented by lumberjacks not Irish poets. So now you know that our snouts are truly in the trough, and I suppose I will have at least this porcine sin to admit to on Monday, the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur.

Now that your "snouts are out of the Trough" how have you been enjoying Dublin? Did you find a Synagogue for Yom-Kippur? We had your mom over for Friday nite dinner. She was great! So delighted to be out of the house. She may come to kol-Nidre at our Shul with Lyle and Yifat. Have fun, and lots of rest, Shana Tova, Binki

''three little piggies went to market..''.
...and the baby one went wee..wee..wee....all the way home ! I was brought up on that -though hardly kosher..and where are it's origins ? quite likely Ireland..is it known in Canada ? Y has gone to bed - all this fasting and praying. I had friends walk over for cake. They weren't supposed to meet...Y,that is - never mind - Y is very tollerant ! And he certainly is not fussy about his pillow as he always sleeps like a log (also an English expression) Continue to have many a balmy slumber !

Hi Liz and Ron What sort of hotel are you in that offers grades of pillows? My most recent experience of pillow quandry was in a travelodge in Chester where the there were only two 4mm deep pillows in each room but we changed rooms so stole the two from the room we vacated. Unfortunately Ivan used three of them leaving me with one which was neither use nor ornament. I am desperate to know what your minibar is stocked with!!!! LOL K
