Dublin.
We arrived at Dublin Central Train Station just after 3pm and decided to be cheap and walk to our hotel. A surprisingly easy 30 minute walk later, we were checking in to our hotel which is a few miles from the city centre. We checked in and made our way to floor six to unpack all of our belongings.
After this was all sorted Sarah and I made our way into the city to have dinner. We found a great little place called Mona Lisa, which specialises in Italian cuisine. It was probably one of the best meals we had eaten in a long time! After our massive dinner we walked the 10 city blocks back to our hotel only stopping to get more credit for the internet stick. Once getting back to the hotel and realising that the credit was in fact for a mobile phone, things quickly turned sour. We had our way all the way back to the city to exchange it, only to find the store clerk had closed early and although he was still in the store the best he could offer was to come back tomorrow.
That night we relaxed after a long day
of walking and watched a sensational French action movie called District 13 and then headed for bed
At around 2am we were woken by the sound of smashing glass and yelling coming from what sounded like next door. Turns out some very, very, angry Irishman was throwing bottles at the hotel lobby windows and had managed to smash 2 of them. This yelling and smashing of things went on for around 20 minutes before we were able to get back to sleep. Let me say this, Dublin is not the kind of place you want to be alone outside at night!
The next morning arrived and I awoke early to continue my battle with the Spar store that had sold me the incorrect credit. I arrived only to find the man who had promised he would deal with me in the morning wasn’t rostered on for another 2 days! The lady who served me was quite helpful but I only ended up getting an exchange as they didn’t sell internet credit at all. This was not going to help the Skype arrangement we had with Kylie and Tonez later that morning. After managing to use the hotels wireless to
do Skype, we headed out to do some washing and get breakfast. A small restaurant down the road called MAIA was fantastic and very cheap. We then headed back to the hotel. That night we decided to find something good for dinner. Surprise surprise we were back at the Mona Lisa. After another massive dinner we headed for bed.
The following day was started by heading down to the foyer and booking in advance a few more places on our itinerary. We managed to book; Lisbon, Madrid and Barcelona. We then headed to a little bagel shop for lunch before finding our way into the city for our hop on hop off tour which had become a sort of ritual for us whenever we reached a new city. After the tour and quite a few laughs thanks to the guide, we headed to the wax museum which although good, has absolutely nothing on the Madame Tussaud’s museums. That night for dinner we thought we’d try something different and went to a traditional Irish pub for dinner. I had my first Irish Guinness and it was still pretty bad. Imagine sucking on a bunch of coins and that pretty much
sums up the taste pretty well.
Our second last day in Dublin was awesome. We got a bus and toured the Wicklow Mountains, just outside the city. The views were absolutely amazing and after no time we were at the Avoca weaving mill where we saw how fabrics were stitched together to make scarves and other things. After a full day of seeing the sights of Dublin’s outlying areas and scenery, we were taken back to the city, where we got dinner. We had dinner at a great little American diner called Eddie Rocket’s in the main street. After dinner we packed our things and headed to bed as the next day we were setting off again.
The last morning of Dublin, and we were making sure everything was packed and getting ready to leave. We walked to the city centre and caught the bus to the airport and made our way through. After such an awesome time in Dublin, Paris is going to be even more incredible I think…
