Dunamaise By Day
Rock Of Dunamaise, Co. Laoise, Ireland So, apparently every time we leave Wicklow without an escort, the weather turns to pot.
We did a trip to the west by car, going through stab city (aka Limerick) and stopping at Ennis. Great town and an even greater hostel: the Rowan Tree. Totally recommend it. Next day we headed off to see Bunratty Castle and its medieval village (great castle, village was a little crap), a bunch of abbeys as usual, and the Cliffs of Moher. These were truly spectacular, and there is a walk you can do to get to a few awesome vantage points. These points were apparently not quite sufficient for a few Darwin Award hopefuls, as they climbed over the barriers (clearly stating that it is dangerous). Our particular favourites were the ones who went over with their pram, complete with baby. High winds, unstable cliff faces and a pram. Well, perhaps that is one way of culling those who were never meant to breed. We spoke to one of the rangers there who said that they regularly have people falling off the cliffs - up to 8 a year! We stayed that night in a little hostel in Doolin, where we were offered

Rock Of Dunamaise, Co. Laoise, Ireland a job as caretakers. Would have been awesome if the Atlantic didn rape the entire countryside with epic winds all the time.
Next day we motored on to Galway, which everyone had been raving about. It was a nice, quite boho town and we had a great cup of chilli which helped the chilly weather go away for a bit. Nice markets and a good place for a stroll but nothing else to write home about. Or blog about for that matter. Whatever you do, don try to find the castle in town... you will be sorely disappointed.
Julian and Lynne (friends of Jos) offered us their holiday cottage near Galway, so we stayed there for a couple of nights, which was great as the Fish had come down with a cold. So we mostly stayed in, played a bucket load of boardgames and took some drives around the countryside. Through the muck and drizzle. And why were we under the impression that the Game of Life was a great boardgame? It sucks!
Next day it was off to Donegal, which is a brilliant little town. We stayed in a village nearby called Killybegs in another awesome

Rock Of Dunamaise, Co. Laoise, Ireland hostel called The Ritz - an ex-cinema building with all the mod cons and a great little kitchen. Also found a Scottish beer we liked, called Late Red. Try it if you can.
And due to the fact that we had a steady stream of drizzle the whole time with steadily increasing rain, we headed back to Wicklow the next day to sunny skies and a couple of weeks of housesitting as Jo and Billy had gone on holiday. But thats the next chapter.
Hope you enjoyed the short blog!
