This awesome Jazz week of October 2011 started with our very first pumpkin carving on the Tuesday 25th. Corey and I were very excited to carve pumpkins for Halloween. Not know what to expect we made our way downstairs to our very good friends Mariah, Corey aka sexy bottoms and Amy's apartment. We cracked some drinks and got the music pumping as we drew our designs on the pumpkins. I was going for a happy pumpkin where Corey went for a more scary looking one. We started to hack into the pumpkins carefully carving around our designs and scooping with out hands the insides of our creations, saving the seeds of course for my room mate Sam's grilled pumpkin seeds - which surprisingly tasted really nice and salty! After a few drinks and more craving we were all finally finished carving. We decided it would be awesome to light the candles and turn the lights off to look at our masterpieces!! as you can see from the photos they clearly are the best Halloween pumpkins ever made!
The weekend finally arrived which meant that it was finally JAZZ FESTIVAL WEEKEND! which also meant that the streets would be packed filled
with local Irish people and many tourists! a lot of whom were dressed up in Halloween costume! We headed out on the Saturday around town to watch the free Jazz street performances - which was incredible! the amount of talent that had arrived in Cork was astounding! We saw this amazing 12 piece Jazz band playing int he street with many different instruments from saxophones to trumpets and even drums! That night we headed back into the main streets searching for some Jazz, but first we went out for dinner and a nice cafe/restaurant called Newport. We had a few drinks and a few laughs and the headed to the An Brog - one of the local pubs that serves cheap drinks. We saw a covers band play which were very talented. The Brog was packed so it made it hard to have a great time but we conquered through it!
The next day (Sunday) after a good sleep in and pancakes for breakfast we chilled out a little bit as it was a bit rainy outside. That afternoon we headed down to my friend Laura's place from UCC as she was hosting a Halloween party as Halloween was
the following day! it was girls night out! Sam, Mariah Michelle and I all dressed up! Sam dressed up in a hot masquerade outfit, Mariah dressed as a super cute geek, Michelle dressed up as the "night sky" and I dressed up as a Hippie with freaky coloured hair. The Halloween party was so much fun! We made new friends, some international student and some from Ireland! After a few hours we decided to head up to Oliver Plunket Street to check out some local places to go. Once we arrived the street was packed and so were the pubs! I have never seen so many people in the main street, especially at midnight. The majority of them were dressed up, some in awesome outfits and some in outfits that didnt cover their butts! I decided to call it a night as I had another big night ahead of me the next night.
So Monday night finally came by... which I was very excited about as Corey and I scored last minute tickets to see TIM MINCHIN at Cork opera House! Even though he is also a fellow Australian we couldn't wait to see him play again! We scored
ourselves really good seats in the middle near the stage. It was a wonderful night filled with drinks and so much laughter.
The next day (Tuesday) we were back at Cork Opera House to see Dylan Moran.. yes I know we had a big weekend with Halloween/ Jazz Fest and Tim Minchin but we couldn't say no to seeing the AMAZING Dylan Moran! It was also another hilarious night! I didnt know what to expect with his stand up comedy as we have never seen him live but he was so funny and made fun of the Irish! It was a perfect way to finish off an already perfect weekend in Cork.
