The tours of the summer 2012 that stand out in my mind are the Canadian several. One group in June, the family from Utah in July as well as a family from Washington (only 3 people) in July/August, the couple from USA in August and then the school group from Lancaster University in September. One group after the other. Between those tours I had day-tours with mostly people from cruise ships. Simply a wonderful experience to be able to see all those people and be with them, even if it were only for a day. The group of 16 in June was such a happy lot. We (my husband and I) took them to the westfjords to start with, then over to the northern part. They were here for 13 days. So enjoyable to have them, ... read more

This morning I was up very early and so was my husband. We had to be at the international airport in Iceland to pick up some tourists coming from Canada. Six of those people have been on a tour with us before so we were looking forward to see them again along with some more people from this Outdoor club. So nice to see those seven and also the other nice whom we have not met before. We start the day with breakfast at the Viking hotel. A Viking festival will begin today. We went on an introduction tour of Reykjavik, then back to the Viking hotel where everything is in action. Tonight we will go to a small restaurant called Tilveran (Existance), one of my favourite restaurants in this little friendly town of Hafnarfjordur. The ... read more

1. Hottest and coldest – snow mountains and glacier VS geiser Iceland is an amazing place that you can find the mountains covered with snow for tens of thousands years + the boiling water from the geisers in this small country! Even the tape water is from the snow mountains, the nearly the purest water in the world! The taste of the water is a bit wired (sulphur flavour), though, the rich natural mineral is great for our health!! Reminder: NEVER buy bottle distilled water in Iceland as it'll be too stupid to do so! 2. A place for Nothern-Polar Light Seeing Nothern-Polar Light is one of the MUST DO things in life time! I'm overwhelmed when I was so lucky to have seen it twice! The area I stayed was not in the capital, though, ... read more

Well today was the last vaccination shot (although we have one left in June). We've also drunk the cholera "potion"....did not like it....I'm kindof squeamish so you had to fight keeping it down...it was not so much the taste, rather the texture. Anyway, only two weeks till l leave my little island. Amazing how time flies. I remember me and Guðrún starting this trip a year ago and thinking:" This is so far away that it's probably never going to happen". But like always time goes so fast by that you almost don't have enough time...or start plannig a bit to late (like in school). Yes, we could use more time planning things but we'll just play it by ear I guess. _____________________________________________________________ Jæja, þá er síðast sprautan búin, eða í bili. The three of us have been living together for the past 4 months but moved last weekend. It's been strange not seeing Gudrún everyday....but after 3 weeks we'll be breathing down each others necks all the time so....... We met yesterday to book the rest of the flights. It didn't go very well at first. Spent a lot of time trying to book flights on sites that didn't seem to know that Iceland exists. We even tried booking under nationalities like Greenlanders and Danish....funny... After a lot of frustration and pulling our hairs out we finally succeeded in booking at least some of the flights. I strongly recommend dohop.com. If you're from Iceland don't even try to use Kayak.com....that was a waste of time...but Kayak.co.uk was successful in some cases. So now we just need to ... read more
