We had a leisurely beginning to our day today. We enjoyed a very nice buffet breakfast in the hotel since we weren't catching the train to Budapest until 9:53. The breakfast had many offerings. There were boiled eggs, lunchmeats, cheeses, cereal, cakes, breads, rolls, bacon, ham, pork and beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, juices, coffee, and tea. So much to choose from. Our observation of people not getting early starts to their day was true here too. We were eating breakfast alone until we were ready to leave and then another family came in. When we checked out and got to Hlavne Square we saw mostly just workers. It was such a quiet atmosphere compared to yesterday with all the tourists filling the square. Our train ride to Budapest went smoothly. It took just about two and a ... read more

By Kornel and Mike - Once upon a time in Hungary....far far away, there is a #99 bus. This bus was named not for the route but for temperature and humidity. Many have tried but only LAWPC could ride to the end of line. After the long, sweaty bus ride, we had our final practice at Honved's pool by ourselves (and had an inner team competition day). Though many performed well in our team competition the white team needed a hero to win the game. Justin lined up for the penalty shot, but opposite is normal position. He needed to score to win the game on Danny who had been a wall the whole practice. As Justin lobbed the ball to into the left corner of the goal, Danny was as embarrassed as he has ever ... read more

By: Sean and Niki Today is the last day we will have a scrimmage. The team we played was Vasas. They were probably the best team we have gone against. We played there 19s team and there 16s team. Both teams brought different challenges. The 16s team made it very difficult to shoot with a hard press. The 19s team would be in a zone and made it hard to get calls and goals out of center. These teams gave us a lot of challenges. One was how to attack as we were not shooting or passing as well as we should have been. We started to get frustrated with each other. Being athletes, competition makes us who we are and this means that we will fight and butt heads. The book The Inner Game of ... read more

By: Vuk and Jackson Today was the earliest wakeup of the trip with a record breaking 8:15 breakfast at the Lions Garden Hotel. We all had another delicious breakfast that included meats, bread, coffee, and many other healthy choices. After the 30 minutes we had for breakfast, we headed out for our seventh training of the trip. Today's pool was by far the furthest from the hotel than any other pool. During the first training, we played the 01' and 02' team from the club team BVSC. This team was very aggressive in the press, however was no match for the Americans. Both teams continuously fought their hearts out until the end of the match, but the Americans came away with the win. After the game, the team swam the usual 100 cool-down, changed, and got ... read more

By: Zander and Koutn By the time we had explored and had many restless nights in hungary, the seventh day had arrived sooner than we expected. On the seventh morning, Dusty gave us news that we would be having a ruthless punishment due to people staying out of their room the night before. We looked into the day with gloomy hope of a restful practice. Leaving our hotel in the morning, we hopped onto our long bus ride, knowing that it would be taking us to our venue where we would be punished. After getting out of the bus and walking into the facility, we were able to see the pool we would be in. This was no ordinary pool, it was long course, meaning the pool was 50 meters. With all the intimidation of what ... read more

By Luke and Justin - Today we had another hot and humid day in beautiful Hungary! We started the day off with a 9:00 breakfast at the Lions Garden Hotel. We greeted our great Hungarian coach/tour guide Kornel, then had thirty minutes to eat, drink coffee, and get prepared for a day filled with fun, laughter, and water polo in amazing Budapest. Immediately after breakfast, we made our way to a popular tourist location where many players bought souvenirs to bring home to their loving family. People bought many great gifts such as coffee mugs, key chains, and very expensive, flashy, and in no way useful, sailor hats purchased by sam and Jackson. From the tourist location, we went to the scrimmage to play the same team as yesterday. Both teams again put up quite a ... read more

By: Aidan Djavadi, Aaron Arias "We may need to learn how to feel again and learn how to learn again." Today we transitioned from tourism to water polo. Before our first training with Ferencvárosi Torna Club (FTC) aka "Fraddi" we went to Hero's square. Hero's square is noted for its iconic statue complex featuring the seven chieftains of the magyars and other important national leaders. This land mark is a great recognition for the brave chieftains. This piece of history marked the beginning of the end of our first half in Hungary and the transitioning from tourism to water polo. FTC is home to well known olympic athletes Dániel Varga, Norbert Madaras, and Stefan Mitrović. As well as being home to these well known athletes, FTC has 79 medals from 1909-1999. After being established in 1899 ... read more

Hello hello, The last stop on my two week journey with my first travel companion ended here in the transcendent Budapest. It seemed to be such a fitting destination to wrap up this leg of my travels as it was also my favourite place to visit. I have loved every place I've visited of course, but something about this city captured my heart completely. We arrived in the late afternoon and proceeded to sign up to a hop on, hop off bus tour as we knew Budapest was rather large and we wouldn't be able to do the city justice in a day if we walked all of it. Interestingly, we ended up walking far and wide anyway. We went on a quick circuit of the city on the bus to do some reconnaissance before really ... read more

By Ethan and Cole - Hungary has been a very enjoyable and new experience for most of us, so far before training begins. In the current section of "The Inner Game of Tennis" the author discusses the best way to learn. It can be summed up with the quote "No teacher is greater than one's own experience." We will relate this to several parts of our day and our team. Our fifth day started with us meeting up at 9am for breakfast however some of us went to bed late the night before and slept late, making them late for breakfast. Regardless, we all had enough time to eat and were ready to leave to Aqua World. After a long bus ride and an even longer quiz about the first 4 chapters of the book by ... read more

By Josh and Milan- Today we had breakfast at 8:30 and left the hotel at 9:00. We went to the Szecseni baths. During our time in the baths we went in the hot tub, sauna, steam room, and an ice pool. After walking in and out of the pools for about two hours we dried and left. We ate lunch at a restaurant across the street. After eating we got on a bus to go to the hotel. On the ride we played the party game to pass time. (This is a mind game where each person must figure out the pattern or category that "gets you into the party.") We then went on a bus to the 5th and 3rd place games. Montenegro got fifth place against Italy and Serbia got third place against Greece. ... read more
