koufonissi
the coast line hello all! --- warning-- this ones a long one!-- everything is going great with our euro trip. the greek islands were definitly a highlight for the both of us. After going to travel agents and talking to many locals we decided on going to two different islands. We wanted one that wasnt so touristy with gorgeous beaches and landscape and the other would be your typical greek island party get away.
We left Athens on the 18th of July on a ferry to go to an island called KOUFONISSI. this island is literally a speck on the map and MANY people have never heard of it. It took us a while to even find it on the internet. With the bad weather and there being alot of waves and such we got to the island VERY LATE (i think it was around 2am) so we had two days on the island and they were great. The population of the island had to be no more than 300 ppl and there was maybe 300-400 tourists. We spent our days on the beach and exploring the coast of the island. The water was so beautiful. Ive never seen anything like it before.
beach koufonissi
partly nude beach .. the naked guy chose to sit right by us ... A bluish-greenish colour with waves hitting the cliffs of rock. we took so many pictures! The water was colder than we thought it would be and the beach wasnt with the white sand we were expecting.. but to tell you the truth .. the sight of the water made up for it. Because the island wasn't very touristy the food wasn;t very expensive so we were able to go out to restaurants and not feel guilty... the food was UNREAL. The sea food .. and the authentic greek food .. yummm souvlaki!
On our last day in KOUFONISSI we found a pool of water in the rocks. It was so amazing. Very peaceful as there wasnt the crowd of people the beach had and the water was calm because it wasnt conected to the sea... it was beautiful! Ian got to cliff jump into the pool and Karla got to tan on the rocks... yup heaven! What made this island even cooler is that it is a pirate island. Pirates were said to have stayed on this island. Well, the pirates have very good taste thats for sure. The islands community was so small.. all the locals seemed to
little pool in koufonissi
little pool we found randomly on the coast know everyone. We went to a great cocktail bar one night and saw how everyone know everyone else first hand. You could definitely tell who the tourists were.
So after spending two days in Koufonissi relaxing we left for our second island, MYKONOS. we had to stop in an island called NAXOS to get to mykonos from koufonissi which was not bad at all. Naxos is a big island that mainly said to be fore families. It was a very nice island and the water was beautiful. The waves were very strong so watching the water hitting the rocks was unbelievable,.. water is so strong. So we spent the day looking around the island... had a drink at happy hour (wow they really make great drinks here!) and then off to Mykonos around 9 at night.
We stayed at a camp ground in MYKONOS (for those of you who think that we are not roughing it..we are..ahahah) We were able to rent a tent but sleeping was not the best when laying on a hard and rocky "camp ground" ground. We really liked mykonos. Our camp ground was located close to one of the famous beaches called "paradise
the pool again
clif jumping into the pool right by the ocean beach."
The first day Karla spent the day tanning on the beach while Ian went scuba diving. The water was beautiful and he got to see some cool fish. Around 4pm the beach bar started to raise the volume of the speakers a bit every 5-10 minutes until it was blarring loud. It was alot of fun... the beach bar was amazing! the bar is called Tropicana and there was an Italian DJ surrounded by many dancing girls. There were so many italian, french and english tourists. The music played straight from 4 - 11pm. The cocktails were great and you had peope buying bottles of tequila and just pouring it into random peoples mouths. it was crazy. So we did the same thing the next day ... alot of sitting and tanning and then dancing and drinking.... the beach again wasnt white sand.. it was little rocks, buts its alright cuz the bar provided the chairs to tan on. The water was beautiful and the weather was great!
Our last night in Mykonos was crazy, we spent the evening at the campsite bar. We got to know the poeple working there (bartender) so that was good for
out at night in koufonissi
karla going out for dinner on the beach our wallets. we also stole (shhh--- borrowed for the night) cushions from the bar (the returned them the next morning) so we could have a good sleep that night. Around 2am we left the campsite(with the ppl from the camp site) and went downtown to a club called SPACE. It was a huge club with go go dancers and the works. It was alot of fun.. it was packed!
Our last day in MYKONOS was alot of fun. We rented a four wheeler and explored the whole island. We went to many different beaches and we saw alot of amazing landscapes. All in All.... the GREEK ISLANDS were AMAZING!
