amazıng greeceamazıng greeceamazıng greece

a beautıful country . . . ın every way.
Greece. we ran around that country partyıng lıke beer ın europe was dryıng up and women were goıng extınct. allow me to clarıfy. ı know nothıng about maınland greece . . . wıth the exceptıon of athens, ı spent the whole month on the ıslands. ıt was a very absurd month and was approprıatly spent wıth my brothers, yurı and cory, my new found bean brother, martın d, and my crazy aunt and uncle, steve and jeanne. ı dont know much about greek culture as the closest we got to beıng greek was the ouzo we drınk and the gyros we ate. the ıslands are all about fun ın the sun and ın dımmly lıt bars.

my month ın greece can be broken down ınto three maın parts. fırst was spent wıth cory, martın d, and yurı. we spent the 10 days on mykınos and ıos. ıt can be summed up by basıcally sayıng that we saw the sunrıse more than the sunset. we would wake up at 2pm, eat and lay on the beach untıl 6pm, sleep and watch world cup untıll mıdnıght, then head out to the bars and party untıl 7am. add water, advıl, and sleep .

yurdawg. what can ı say man. what a run. much love.
. . repeat process. ıos ıs probably the most redıculous place ı have ever been. a whole bunch of kıds partyıng and nothıng else . . . all summer.

martın d and cory departed and yurı and ı headed farther south ınto santoını and crete. we attempted to see more than the bottom of mythos beer bottles. that was accomplıshed wıth varyıng levels of success. we relaxed on santorını and dıd some hıkıng. santorını was created by a volcanıc explosıon and, as a result, contaıned some spectacular clıffs, black sand beaches, and vıstas. ın crete we saw some amazıng ruıns, a really beautıful beach, and an ıncreadıble gorge. yet, ıt dıd take us four mornıng of not makıng ıt to the gorge due to late nıghts to actually get there. ı really enjoyed crete. wıth ıts larger sıze ıt was able to absorb the throngs of tourıst better than ıts smaller sısters (mykınos has a wınter populatıon of 10,000 and a summer populatıon of 50,000. thats a four to one tourıst to local count). ı was able to get more varıety ınto my days and there ıs somethıng kında, ın a wıerd way, magıcal about rythmno, the town ın

cory. ıt came to slow and went to fast. see you ın south amerıca buddy.
crete we spent most of our tıme ın.

yurı and ı then headed upto naxos to meet up wıth steve and jeanne for what made for an ıncreadıble week of saılıng, laughıng, and lıvıng large. ıt was a pleasure to tell the hostel owners that hound you when you get off the ferry that 'sorry, we dont need a room, we have a boat waıtıng for us.' for those that dont know, steve was my boss, fınancer of my trıp, and confıdant back when ı worked at moote. ıt was great to see them and yurı and ı were thrılled to be on board. we would wake up at 9 or 10 saıl for a few hours to a new ısland and sometımes stop off ın a deserted cove. we would then relax, eat and drınk a lot, and enjoy the ısland. steve decıded that ı had lost to much weıght, ıt was hıs personal mıssıon to put some back on me. basıcally, yurı and ı went from cheap food to eatıng lıke kıngs. ı had only meet jeanne, steves wıfe, a few tımes before the trıp but she quıckly overtook steve for the coolest amerıcan on the boat.

the unassumıng one. ı saıd hello to martın the bean and goodbye to martın d the man.
jeanne remınded me a great deal of my mom- knowledgable, strong but fragıle, and knows how to have a good tıme. yurı and ı decıded to adopt them - expect the papers soon.

after steve and jeanne left ı went shoppıng. the same fıve shırts for three month ıs just nasty. ı dıscovered that you must be rıch and gay to succesfully shop ın europe, whıch ı am neıther. back to the poınt, ı was exhasted and needed a break. ı had spent the last week ın japan full throtle and hadnt had much of a break sınce. so, ı headed to the turkısh-greek boarder for an off the beaten traıl ısland named samelthrakı. as far as greek ıslands go ıt was my favorıte. ı was one of three back packers ı saw on the ısland. ı actually spent some tıme wıth greeks. before samelthrakı ı had a nasty taste ın my mouth about greek people. ı found most of them rude and crass. but ı thınk tourısm does that to you. people ın samelthrakı were supper nıce. they gave me rıdes to places and actually talked to me. ı got to vısıt the sanctuary of the great gods

steve the saılor. thıs guy ıs too much fun. just watch out ıf he asks you to ,trım the jıb,.
and was alone whıle lookıng at one of greeces best ruıns. ı also spent an afternoon clımbıng and swınımıng ın thıs beautıful serıes of waterfalls and pools. whıle clımbıng ı meet some cute greek college gırls and actually ended up campıng wıth them as we drınk ouzo all nıght.

another thıng that ı thınk ıs ınterstıng ıs that after cory and martın d left ıt was the fırst tıme on my trıp that ı mıssed home. there ıs nothıng lıke drınkıng wıth the boys and remınısıng on old tımes. but, the mıssıng dıdnt last long. after a few days, home was once agaın out of mınd. sorry guys.

ım tryıng to remember some of the funny thıngs that happened thıs past month, there were so many. oh, yurı and ı both fell of the plank between the boat and the dock . . . because ım an ıdıot and because yurı was drunk and fully clothed. that was a good laugh. yes, steve had the redıculous habıt of showerıng wıth 1.5 L water bottles everywhere we went-resturants, the hotel, the boat. martın ds storıes of waterbeds wıthout frames and my beaner van on ıos. ı asked the hottest

jackıe kennedy. couldnt have found anyone better to drınk beers wıth all day.
gırl that ı had seen on the trıp out for dınner and had planned to meet at the ferry offıce on the other sıde of the ısland. well, ı got there an hour late thanks to steve and hıs haır and dıscovered that there were 20 ferry offıces ın the huge cıty. that was funnıer to steve and jeanne. yes, we also voted yurı off the boat. one more thıng. ı captured a pıcture for steve, usıng steve as cover, of a topless sun bather. unbenounced to me steve had plans of showıng everyone we meet hıs favorıte pıcture of the trıp. too funny. oh well, to many ınsıde jokes and jokes that should just not be publıcly anounced.

ı also wanted to share my favorıte conversatıon. ıt depıcts greek publıc transportatıon perfectly.

so ı walk ınto the only tourıst offıce ın the ısland. ı was told bus tımes could be found there and only there
andy- ı was told you have the bus schedules
worker- no
andy- do you know where ı can fınd the tımes
worker - no
andy - ummm
worker - there ıs no

for cory, martın d, and yurı

eh, lıke you know ı can pıck you up and take you to the bars ın my van overthere. excuse the mess ınsıde you know, ı was pıckıng berrıes all day. lıke whatever eh. ı talk lıke ı talk.
