Santorini
Caldera view Day 1
Off to Santorini we go its a 2 hour boat ride...it stops in Paros, Naxos then Santorini...once we get to the port we get our transfer...we start climbing, climbing and more climbing right to the top...Santorini is built on a caldera....yes, it's part of a volcanic explosion. After a 10 minute ride we get to our hotel...the driver is surprised we travelled with one bag only....he was giving us someone else's bag ..We get ready and off to dinner we go....after a swim in the pool of course...the hotel - astro palace is new....and it's nicely situated 5 minutes from town walking....but we didn't count on the steep hill....oh well you can't have everything...Dinner was nice...typical Greek food....we then set off to go for a walk....stopped at the jewellers owned by twins and we talked to them for over an hour....we stayed so long they offered us their own dads home made wine....Ok, so off to explore some more....we came across the town bar.....they had happy hour...yay...then we went off to the dance floor for a dance,.
Day 2
Carmen decided to spend the day by the pool...I went walkabout through the city again....the views of
the city are amazing and worth seeing during the day and night....I went and booked our volcano sailing tour....got a new SD card for my camera....yes the 16gig was full.....bought a 32 one for 30 euros....I then proceeded to find the old port as this is where we needed to take the tour from....the only way down was by donkeys....walking ...or cable car...think Carmen would go cable car? ..So once my duties were done I went and had the fish in a tank experience...where the little fish eat your dead skin...I then had a coffee at this little coffee shop in the caldera....it had this amazing view of the volcano, city and sea....It also had a restaurant attached to it....so I made a booking for Carmen and I for 8 o'clock..when the sun starts going down...Once I came back from the hotel ....I jumped in the pool to get the heat away....Off to get ready for our Romantic dinner LOL.....Dinner, view and company were awesome....I think at one stage Carmen wanted to ask me to marry her....ummm...NO Carmen...
Day 3
Pool again...yes....then off to our boat trip....cable car down....we waited for our ride...the ship that came to pick
us up was a replica of a pirate ship - Thalassa -..once boarded, first stop was the volcano..while sailing there, you really admire the view of Santorini from the other side....you see this little city on top a hugeeee caldera....the village seems so tiny...you also see all the big ships coming to visit this beautiful city....We arrived at the volcano - Nea Kameni - and it was a fair walk ....it also wasn't an easy walk....lucky I wore my sand shoes and Carmen her roman sandals... not only where the paths hard to walk but we picked the hottest day......we had to make four stops each stop was getting higher....this volcano is asleep....and they predict that in 15 to 20 years it might have another explosion..the last one was in 1952....you smell the carbon dioxide a mile away....Once at the top you see an amazing view of all islands surrounding the volcano....all products of previous explosions. Continuing our trip we came across hot springs - Palea Kameni - produce by the volcano...the only way off getting there was to jump from the ship and swim....once you get there the water is warm and certain spots have mud...which you can put
over yourself....and you can look ten years younger...I must look 20 now haha...carmen stayed at the boat she didn't want to jump..Back to the ship.....the guide counted everyone but I think she missed counted, we nearly left two behind...We then went to a little town - Thirasaia - which has an amazing zig zag road...we went for a swim while dinner was prepared....the water is an amazing blue....and you float with no problem or effort...Carmen finally got the courage to jump off the boat....it was so cute seeing her jump...dinner ready...Food and wine were good.....off to see the sunset now..just below OIA....it was gorgeous at the top of the caldera...it was more amazing by the sea....all the ships opened their sails...Miro who not only did the drinks, life saver, chef, jack of all trades ...also did the sails this guy jumped from one side to the other...no wonder he was so fit....we also had a someone playing the saxophone while watching the sun...So off we went sailing back to port dancing the zorba....if you're here in Santorini...this one is worth doing ...After landing in port we did a bit off shopping, I was over greek food so I had fries
and a burger....!
Day 4
We extended our stay in santorini....while I went for a two hour massage...carmen stayed by the pool....the massage consisted of been wrapped in chocolate....and staying like that for 20 minutes...the smell of the chocolate was delicious....then off to shower and then massage and facial....loving life....We were both so relaxed that we decided to go for a big night out....Dinner was at Mamas House....yes Carmen thought that she was at her mums house....mama kept screaming at all the waiters LOL...dinner was nice and reasonable priced....So we got free tickets to murphy's for happy hour.....we met this Greek girl....and got talking to her...then we saw the sign eight shots and you got a free hat...well. ..we shouldn't have seen that sign....see the photos...hope she got home ok..we lost her....I went and picked up the sandals I had bought at around 3am....i think the shop keeper was drunk too ....yes shops open here till late...Before we went back to the hotel we had loukanades with ice cream....and we had them twice before the club and after the club....I would show you what they looked like but were to drank to take a shot so we have
one of after...they were yummy....
Day 5 hangover day.....pool day....
Day 6
We decided to change the scenery today and we to black beach in Kamari....The ride to the beach is 20 minutes by bus and the bus cost 1:60 euro....Once there you see the beach by this huge cliff.....and tavernas all along the coast...you can't complain about not finding food....we hired our chairs and umbrellas for 6 euros...I went for a walk to take photos while Carmen had a rest......I don't know how many times I heard...darling come to my restaurant ...where are you from? anyway took my photos, did a bit of shopping and then dived into the sea...the sand here is back pebbles, followed by black sand, followed by slippery black rocks in the sea.....the water is beautiful but getting in the water and out is one tricky job....you need those slippers with rubber underneath. We were hungry so we got take away yeeros.....and had fanta with lemon...Back to the hotel to go ...first a swim by the pool...the waiters missed us today..they tought we had left.....lol...Ready for our Greek night...we went to a Greek taverna with music and bouzouki ....Carmen practiced her Greek
all night with new friends from the restaurant, now I know she felt when I spoke Spanish ....I was bored and lost...they tried to translate but its hard when you have a flow on conversation, but I still enjoyed listening to the music, and watching Carmen dance Greek....A late night was had by all...lucky we ran away from the group, all the Greek wanted to marry us so we could bring them back to Australia...
